petco carpet

i did try a bta about 7 months ago in another tank(that i killed with copper, the tank not the bta)i know the acclimation and settling is the hump.i also in this tank have some other corals shouold i run some carbon?

look sMUCH better now. settling in nicely. i feed min 3 to 4 times a week. to be honest i run carbon to help with any chemical warfare and it works well for BTA carpet and my SPS frags. also keeps the water crystal clean ;)

You could let it settle in a few more days before you feed it, but to answer your question, just put a small, say the size of a peanut, piece of silverside or shrimp on the tentacles. If it is settled in enough, it will then close around that and the mouth will extend and engulf the food. Don't be shocked if it doesn't eat just yet, sometimes it can be a week or so after adding to a new tank before they eat.

ok so just an update.first thanks guys for replying getting a nem like this is stressful to acclimate and your guys help, helped me.so the nem is still of course acclimatimng but he looks good.i topped off 5 gallons of ro/di water at .028 into my tank that was .023.it is now .024 and i will repeat in the morning to slowly raise my sg.im shooting for .026.i also added carbon to my filter.i havent bothered the carpet,i did adjust some flow away from him his edges were blowing a little hard and he looks bettter for it.here is some update pics.

thanks for the compliments,i rarely post a fts.i am a little obsessive compulsive so i usally dont like how my tank looks.i am using about 80% lace rock,i like the look better.the only worry i had was bound up phosphates but i think i got it under control via a blackout and a few big water changes and i do run some phos pads in my filter.i do have question about the carbon, will it also strip my supplements from the water?calcium,strontium,etc./i know i did planted tanks for a while and i wouldnt run carbon.thanks

one other thing i have not fed it,and yet there is some thick brown waste coming from it.nothing clear and stringy.is this normal as he is getting attached and acclimated????????

That does look really good now.. So have you been back to Petco to see what happened to the other ones? I've always had good luck with Petco, I never lost any animals I got from there..

Do you have chaeto in the sump? That is good for phosphate if you have any concern of residual. Skimming removes some trace elements, but most agree it is a worthwhile loss considering the pros. I don't know how much, if any trace elements are removed by your carbon, but again, if any it is worth the loss for the benefits.

dont worry too much about carbon striping trace element do 5% more water changes than you usually do if your concerned

no i havent been back to petco since.the one we have ,the fish for sure are not(at this point)in good shape.the staff are college girle that are pretty much lost.they lose livestock on a regular basis, the only other thing i ever got there was a coral beauty and had to beat ich with him.hes fine now and a model citizen.

i run(dont trash me)2 rena canster filters.3 koralias to keep the debris suspended and mechanically removed.i have 4 small fish.so my bioload(before this rather large nem)was low.i do want to add a sump/refugium but am still learning.my nitrates sometimes go on the rise.right now 5-10ppm is the norm.are shaving bush plants as effeciant, asexual etc to maybe add to the main tank?????

If you don't have a skimmer, then you definitely should be running carbon. Shaving brush isn't going to be nearly as effective an exporter of nitrate or phosphate as chaeto as it doesn't grow nearly as fast. Chaeto, with the right light, can go from the size of a soft wall to the size of a soccer ball in a couple of weeks or so. But a small bioload, light feeding, carbon and weekly water changes should keep your water quality pretty good. There are overflow boxes, only one really good brand and I can't think of the name, that make a sump easy in a non-drilled tank. Maybe someone can point you in the right direction for the brand, it's supposed to be fail-proof as far as flooding your house. If you had a sump under the tank, you could put the protein skimmer and a ball of chaeto in there, with a small flourescent bulb over the chaeto. It just needs 5000K-6700K, to grow fast.

oh i forgot to ask.i am thinking clowns ia a couple weeks.i usally see clarkiis(saddle clowns?)in carpets.i dont mind the look of them but size wise they get too big for my style and are a little rough demeanor wise from what ive read.i love the look of picassos, and onyx.will they host a carpet or is it hit and miss.
