Pete's 110 build

Woah, that bacteria blob was interesting - and a little gross. Wish I could get my birdsnest to start taking off... seems like it's just stagnant. Yours looks(ed) amazing with all that growth!! :)

Pete, thanks for the frags. I'm really sorry I couldn't come too, but I was out like a light from pain meds after a trip to the LFS. Donzi told me the tank has had amazing growth since the last time we saw it & that the whole top of the tank is shading the rest...I said "You mean like a real reef?" LOL I already thought your tank is the closest I've seen to real, I can only imagine it now since even your great pics don't do it justice!

Hopefully these will make it since we've gotten the tank stable again after ditching the biopellets!

Donzi filled me in about your back, hope they figure it out and it gets better soon.

------------------------

here's the start of a LED control box for my LED build I'll be doing for my 29g
file.php

I can't believe they sent me two different size potentiometer knobs

With the bio pellets off line for about a week now the corals look like they are picking up more color. Hard to tell for sure but it looks like my encrusting montes are getting some color back along with the acros.

I banned this guy to the sump tonight

The Montepora Undata is almost 100% recovered. By recovered I mean completely grow over the dead spots. This isn't the best picture as it was later in the evening with mostly blue LEDs on and my Blue Acropora Tortuosa is shadowing it.

I finished up the LED control box for my 29g LED build. Inside the box are the power supplies, potentiometers for dimming and on/off switches. I suspect the box may get warm and if so I'll cut out a space in the back and mount a fan to it.

I did have to change out the switches as the original ones shown above had only 12v bulbs in them. When I bought them I read they were rated for 125/150v 15 amp but missed the small print on the bulb rating. I found out they were not 120v rated as soon as I plugged it in :spin2:

Wanting to use the same cut out, I checked online to see if the manufacturer made the same size with a 110v bulb. They did so I set off to Frys to see if they carried them. They didn't, so I ended up buying a couple of power bars for $3.19 each and pulled the switches out of them. Go figure the switch alone was $4.99 so I actually saved going this route.

Initially I was planning on using one power cord but decided to use two so I could have the 2 sets of LEDs on separate timers. As shown below you can see I used DC plug-in ports for where the LED lights will plug in.

And I picked up and installed a matching pair of potentiometer knobs.

Next up are the LED bars - I should have a set ready tomorrow night.

I'm glad to report both light bars work flawlessly :)

I'm going to try the red LED to see what colors it brings out. I may need to remove the lens to give it a broader beam. If it spotlights I'll just replace it with another cool white.

the other bar (not lit) is all royal blue

so far I've had these running for an hour plus on low and both the bar and control box are cool. When cranked up full load they get warm but I do have a heatsink that will be mounted to the back of the bar.

Next is mounting - I hope to have at least one finished product up tomorrow

Almost finished :)

Almost finished :)

Here is one of the units almost complete - it is bolted to the glass top using stainless steel bolts that will allow me to adjust the height from 0" to about 2 1/2". I also installed a Molex plug on the back. All I have left for this first unit is the pulling the power wires through some heat shrink to give it that finished look

Your tank is just flawless! Just incredible! :)

thanks for the kind words Brittany

Looking good .... Expandable Mesh Sleeving would work great for that.

and always looking forward to seeing more tank pics and videos that keep inspiring many of us here on RC....Awesome tank.

thanks for the Link and inspiration to post more pics and videos Snootch

I like that sleeving and may have to check into it for future use.

The new LEDs are already making a big difference in my 29g. The rics are perking up and the once green but lately brown paly's have turned a bright green again.

The lighting now bright enough I decided to try a couple anemones in the 29g.

How many fish you have in your 110 is it a 48L,18W,30H

current fish list (19):

yellow tang
kole tang
green chromis x 9
lyretail anthias x 6
flame angel
coral beauty angel

Untill a week ago I had a foxface but he decided to jump on to the top of the wave box and got stuck there. I've never seen him jump before so I was surprised after having him 4+ years to find him there. :(

and yes the tank is 48" x 18" x 30"

So this is my Stock list on my 110G
1 Bicolor Angelfish
1 Yellow Tang
1 Clarkii Clownfish
1 Blue Hippo Tang
1 Powder Blue Tang
2 Firefish
2 Green Chromis
1 Bicolor Blenny

I will like to add one or two small to meduime fish
what do you think?

thanks for the input

I love chalkbass they are an awesome fish maybe some kind of hawkfish or some kind of pseudo like a springeri (my favorite) or a fredimani

1 Bicolor Angelfish
I would love to have one but I understand they are almost always a coral nipper or worse

1 Yellow Tang
love em

1 Clarkii Clownfish
can be a terror in the tank as tehy grow older and will likely kill the chromis and maybe the firefish

1 Blue Hippo Tang
love me but known to nip on zoa's and clams - suggest you add at the same time as the yellow

1 Powder Blue Tang
one of my favorite - add this one last as it will be the tank boss or with the other two tangs but start with a smaller one

2 Firefish
great fish but very shy, they are a bottom dweller and sleep in or near rocks. Best to provide a small cave for them to hide in. I've ahd several but never one much longer then a year, never sure why they died but suspect they were picked on or attacked when sleeping

2 Green Chromis
I found that numbers between 1 and 7 don't last as they will pick on each other untill only one is left. If there is a larger school of them they seem to be fine.

1 Bicolor Blenny
great fish, lots of pesonality

Looks great Pete. I really like the LED setup. That maricultured milli is awesome. Will you be around next weekend (18th)? I'll be up in Lewisville again and would love to come see your tank and the growth.

I should be but get back to me later in the week. Did you want me to get with Servo (Ryan) or Marc or others to see if they are willing to show off?
