Pete's 110 build

Wow! I agree Lateralus, the video you mentioned and the second one on post 1080 makes me feel like I just viewed a several hundred foot stretch of the Great Barrior Reef.
That wave box is hypnotizing and I all of a sudden had the urge to feed Pigeons?

Greet Stuff.

That's a great wide shot from your wife's camera. Really puts the scale of your tank into perspective. Love how 3 dimensional it looks.

Yea this has definatly been one of my alltime favorite tanks. What is your lighting combo? In particular what are you running during your actinic shots? Basically how do you get so much purple highlight?

I still watch this vid atleast once a week lol. Cant beat good Celtic music.

thanks Mike

it was taken under a mix of VHO super actinics and royal blue leds

the purple is more a side affect of setting the white ballance - there is some purple but most of the purple you see is blue that gets taken out due to all the blue light coming into the camera

Nice nem.

thanks Rob

Back when I first noticed getting high nitrates I used some denrate in a TLF reactor, basically porous rocks that provide surface area and using a slow flow allow for anaerobic bacteria to thrive and consume nitrates. It’s been running for a while but I never gave it much consideration until the other night I knocked off one of the tubes and got a whiff of sulfur, a for sure sign of anaerobic bacteria in action being exposed to air. I think I’ll take my TLF recirc mod reactor and instead of biopellets use the dentrate rocks in it to see if I can get my nitrates lower. Right now nitrate seems to be hovering around a safe 5+/-

When did you setup the 29?

its been set up for about 4-5 years
I put a pair of clowns in it but never added any other fish so the clowns own it. Aside from a few mushrooms, paly's and xenia it hasn't had many corals. I'll do water changes using the water from my 110 and have never checked anything other then the salinity, that said the tank has always been very stable. It has a HOB skimmer, heater and I use a HOB filter for carbon but nothing else. About 6 months ago the heater broke and the temperature was in the mid to high sixties for a while and I think it killed off my bristle worm and micro star population. After the die off I got an aglea bloom that's been just hanging around (not bad but not improving). Now that I changed out the lights I added some brislte worms, micro stars, a few snails and crabs to help control the algea and hope to see the tank become more a simple but nice showcase.

I was cleaning my glass when I noticed a frogspwan spawn (again). It's a arm of a frogspawn with many heads and I see them break off all the time and try to take hold some place in the tank, usually on a coral so I'll pull it off to prevent harm.
Tonight's was captured by one of my tube anemones. At first the captured frogspawn spawn went straight to the mouth but then I guess it didn't like the taste so it pulled it away but it was still stuck in the tentacles. I captured a bit of the action on video.

pete, just want to say i really appreciate you inviting us to see your tank while i was visiting arlington TX. you do have an impressive setup there. I really love to meet other successful reef hobbiest around the US and world and talk tank. Right now I'm trying out a nano with LED's, and once i figure out these LED's i'll probably get something alittle bigger. cheers!
