Pete's 280 log

My regulator shipped today (I hope) so I should have it by the end of the week. I got my Co2 bottle filled today and ordered a few quick disconnect fittings to make life easier for doing maintenance on the Kalc and Ca reactors. I also ordered the water change tank but don't have an ETA on it. It would be nice if everything shows up this week so I can get an idea of how things where things will be in final position for valving and electrical.

Nice Pete, thanks for sharing. I love the exposed stag shots especially.

Let me know when the fun starts this coming weekend, maybe we can bribe Marc to come down too.

thanks crvx, thanks Jay

I like the stag pictures myself, just something different and puts another perspective on just how big it is (but puny compared to a natural growth).

I'll keep you posted on progress this week. Right now I'm back in Ga and may head back tomorrow or may stay till Friday. My wife is planning on a possible Houston trip for Easter so not sure if or when I'll get back on the reactor set up. :(

Have fun in Houston. Let me know if you need a fish sitter this weekend.

The reactor setup isn't that difficult, you could probably do it in a few hours Saturday night if you're up for it. You've already done all of the real "hard" work (plumbing, built a stand, etc).

Pete, your stag is incredible. It really has a huge footprint in your tank.

This is the first time I've seen the blob pictured like that. Is it doing well? No issues?

I just moved a frag of Pete's stag up farther in my tank to see if it does better, it's a serious light-loving coral and I don't have any 400 watt halides like you and Pete. :(

when it almost fell over I had to move it in (or away from the glass). I also moved the chips colony out (closer to glass) to get out from under the growth of the milli above it. The end result from that angle is "the blob" appears to be more in the shadow of the chips, but they both still get decent light. I'll try taking another picture that's more straight down

I did find some AEFW's on it and it did have some skin damage from them but I pulled the rock 2 weeks ago and dipped and inspected for eggs. I blasted a couple times since and nothing and the skin has essentially healed. No guarantee they are all gone, I'll just have to work the blasting occasional dips back into my routine..

But another thought is are you sure you are not mixing the fuzzy but blurry chips up with the smooth blob? The picture only shows about a 1/2" of the blob on the upper edge.

It looks like a bunch of brown polyps, or expelled zooxanthellae, or even brown jelly/RTN in the core. I don't recall ever seeing such dark hairy polyps on that coral before.

I hope I'm just completely wrong and that was there and I simply never saw it before.

Thanks TJ

Marc, what you're describing is the chips acro. The.chips is not in focus and blends right into the blob. The only visable portion of the blob in that picture is about a half inch of the leading coralites.

Pete, that sounds like a cue for you to post more shots with both of those corals in focus.

PS: When are you getting back into town? You were missed last night when we were all out for beers and wings.

Good! I'm glad that I was wrong.

Let's feature that as Coral of the Month, a psteeleb-morphing-blob.
