how high does everyone have their bulb? What wattage and what height?

Im not running phoenix but was thinking about it, until I read all those bad things (im running hqi ballast). My question is, I have my 250 watt 14k hamilton lights about 12 inches off the water, i guess I will get better growth if I lower them right? Because right now im noy getting a ton.

I have my Phoenix bulbs 6" Off the water and I'm running HQI magnetic ballast(Bluewave HQI ballast).

I'm running my phoenix about 6 inches off the water line and on pfo hqi ballast and four t-5's. The halides are only on for 6 hrs a day they have decent growth.

I like the pheonix bulbs. Granted, corals don't grow as fast under them but, that's not necessarily a bad thing. Coral color seems different and I don't think the tank looks to blue every with 4 110W VHO Actinic!! The pheonix bulbs are in ROIII reflectors and run off a dual 250W HQI Blue Wave VII ballast.

AMAZING!!! tell us about your tank!

worst decision I ever made in this hobby was purchasing these bulbs. I run 4 150's over my 120 and have had nothing but problems with my corals. First they fried them...I lost many prized sps. Then as they burned in the bulbs went dim with in a onth.

These are a load of garbage and I advise anyone considering these to think otherwise.

I'm considering changing two out for Ushio 14k's...anyone have thoughts on the Ushio 14's???

Sorry you blame your problems on the bulb there are tons of people who run this bulb and you are the first to say they killed your corals. I run 7 of these bulbs over prized sps and lps and softies nothing died. Been using them since they came out.

I have used both the Ushio 14k bulbs and the Phoenix 14k.

Just so you know, completely different color temps and intensity. The Phoenix has the PAR of a Ushio/BLV 10K and the color temp is more on the lines of a 20K(Blue tint).

The Ushio 14K is a WHITE bulb, is much brighter than the Phoenix, I didnt see any blue from the bulb and the PAR is what you would see with a 10K Ushio/BLV bulb. I first thought that the PAR would be higher on the USHIO 14k versus the Phoenix but that wasnt the case.

Can you provide a link reviewing the Ushio 14k with PAR values? I couldnt find it from Sanjay's intel.

BLV "Nepturion" 14000K Double Ended

USHIO and BLV are the same. USHIO is the american labeled bulb and BLV is the European labeled bulb. All and all, same bulb.

So it seems that the new 14k ushio is nothing more than a 10k with raised attributes across the board; infact, it seems like it's a superior bulb to the 10k, based on Sanjay's findings.

In regards to the 14k Phoonix, what is the explanation for that explosion of light at ~455nm ?

Does the lack of 420nm and shorter wavelength concern users? Is this why Actinic supplements may still be necessary even with a Phoenix bulb?

I find it odd that a 10k/14k Ushio has better "actinic" output than this "blue" appearing Phoenix.
