Phosphate Colorimeter for the club

Just curious how everyone feels about getting a club owned phosphate meter to share. Depending on how many are interested, it wouldn't be too much.

I was thinking something like this...but open to ideas.

If we could get 10 or so people to chip in it would run us about $25 each.

Then, if anyone else wanted to use it... we could just charge $5 or so that would cover calibration. Any left over could go to the club fund.

I wasn't price shopping yet. Only seeing what everyone thought.

However, Guy - we know that you are the best at finding the deals. So don't stop there. I'm expecting you find a deal with a minimum of another 5% less :D

The club got some cash from the raffles maybe the members can vote ??

instead of using it for the frag swaps, maybe we can use it to buy things like this and books and such so club members can check out ? since most of us combined got just about any corals out there already.

I'd be willing to chip in as well for future use.
As for the book idea, I think it's great, but you should work on putting a list together of who has which books(that they are willing to either donate to the club, or loan out). If someone wants a book, they request it, either to be picked up at the meeting, or arrange another pickup. The biggest problem with a "club" library, is that someone has to store them all and be responsible for lugging them around. The way around is to keep a list, and ask the owner to bring the requested book. As always, there is a couple of drawbacks to using privately owned books.
1- the books will not stay in the pristine shape the owner may have kept them in.
2- keeping track of who has what, and keeping the list updated as to what has been loaned out vs. what is currently available.
I've got a small collection of books, just not sure if I'd be willing to donate them, but would be willing to loan them out.

I thought I'd bring this up so everyone can have an opinion by the next meeting. The reason I mentioned everyone that was interested just pitching in instead of using funds is that the guys not keeping sps probably aren't as concerned with PO4.

Does anyone how the reagents work? Are they used with the colorimeter (calibration) or are they their own test kits?

Quick head count. Looks like we've got 5-6 so far. So we're about 1/2 way there.

I found this one, does not have the dual range like the Hanna

From 0.00 to 2.50 mg/L (HI 93713)
From 0.0 to 30.0 mg/L (HI 93717)

But is $100 cheaper than the Hanna with the hard case.

Milwaukee Phosphate Low Range Photometer $155.00

This photometer comes with hard carrying case, complete with reagents for 100 tests. Digital readings in mg/L.

Specifications:
•Range 0.00 - 2.50 mg/L PO4
•Resolution 0.01 mg/L
•Accuracy ± 0.04 mg/L to 1.00 mg/L
•Method Adaptation of Ascorbic acid method
•Reagents (included) Mi512-100
•Light Detection Tungsten lamp
•Calibration automatic
•Auto-off after 8 minutes of non-use

So I figure $175 including shipping as a worst case scenario. That ends up being $25 a person with seven peeps. So maybe we can have this dialed in before the meeting. This way we can collect the funds at the meeting.
