Photo hosting site suggestions

Well, as we all know, Photobucket has become a money grab..
Wondering where to go next..
I am considering starting to use tapatalk because apparently, it'll take the images right off my phone and share them... not exactly sure how this works...This is good for me because I have every image I've ever posted already on my phone but at one point I assume my phone will run out of space.. but gen again maybe not..
Anyways!
Let's see what people are using and why (if there is any particular reason- I assume they all work pretty much the same) you chose the site.
I'm not necessarily looking for a free option either. I'd be willing to pay a reasonable amount to get decent storage, reliability, was of use and decent security of my images...

So I don't believe that with Tapatalk you have to keep the images on your phone. When I 1st started hosting pictures on the internet I used Flickr. I probably would have went back to it but for some reason I cannot get into my account through their app and that is a no-go for me. A lot of people are using Imgur but I haven't been able to figure it out.

I use flickr now too.

I don't mind paying either since I know that the internet is not free, but the way that photobucket went about it seems more like extortion and it turned me off. I would have been happier if they just charged a bit moving forward for all new photos and did not wreck threads and boards all over the internet. ...so I will take my money elsewhere.

I cancelled my account with PB, I left them a pretty direct message as to why I deleted my account, lol... I noticed I was a member since 2008 with PB, no email, no updates, and only found out when I tried to attach pics, good thing my new journal is getting started. When I just logged in to delete my account, I counted 5 pop ups and a new window opened in chrome, also that every click I made on links took way too much time to load, so glad to be done. Flickr is much easier and faster, so truly a blessing in disguise :)

I have switched to Tapatalk. And to answer the earlier question, you do not need to keep your pics on your phone or device.

Hey Matt,
Flickr is easy to use

I use flickr now too.

I've had a Flickr account for a year but never used it. I was just looking at it and discovered it's been on auto upload for the past year! Lots of photos there.. gonna delete them.
But it says they give you 1000 gb free! That's a lot of space.

So, how does tapatalk work? I've never used it. Do they have a cloud based photo sharing doohickey? (Yes, that's a technical term that only serious internets <yes, ALL of them!> savvy people use!!) do have to upload photos to it?

Yea. When you attach a photo it's uploaded to their servers and they keep it there for you.

Got it. Thanks.
How much storage do they allow and do they start charging after a certain amount?

I signed up to a monthly subscription account on Flickr, Perry and jda all but forced me into with their aggressive marketing posts......... :fun4:

(I think they both work for flickr....) :uhoh2:

The free account works well too! I've been using flickr for years (and never paid).

Glad to see you are planning to take only a short break Andrew :D

I do not want to bash PB, so I think that the best thing to do is to promote their competition, lol... :) Also, we have to make sure that Andrew has options, otherwise you may go into Acro Porn withdrawal, not a good thing for an addict ;)

I started using Flicker a few weeks before PB started charging and have been happy with it. It's easier to use and faster.

Even if PB went back to no charge I won't go back as the ads and pop ups became insufferable..............at other times it would lock up my browser.

My only concern with any of these "free" sites is that they could very well do the same.

I'm interested in paying for storage space so my photos won't be lost if there's anything with reasonable pricing.

Been using tapatalk for many many years on other forums. Honestly it makes life super easy if your using your phone a lot. And things I have posted from other phones that no longer work are still on the sites I posted.

Yep,
Exactly my sentiments over here, I cannot believe how much faster Flickr is compared to PB, my browser locked up, virus alerts, pop up ads, and most of all, horribly slow. Luckily for me, I have all my photos backed up on hard drive. I also agree that eventually the other "free" sites will do the same. Not trying to start a conflict here on RC, as I have been a loyal contributor for years, but the competition, the other popular reef site, has direct upload capabilities, I would imagine RC could do this too. This would cut out the middle man so to speak :) Not sure how one would go about encouraging this upgrade? Heck, I would be willing to upgrade my RC account for this option, this could be a premium membership privilege.....hmmm

Also agree totally.. I tried to use PB to post an album of soccer photos for the parents of my daughter's team to look at but they were not able to actually access the photos because of all the spam and pop ups that assault you when you go to the Photobucket site.
A buddy of mine surmised that Photobucket doesn't care about us and is more interested in the 'adult content users' who will pay through the.... nose to keep their photos...
Certainly is in line with how the site seems to operate..
.. I guess that's a bit of bashing, isn't it, Perry.. oh well :) couldn't resist.
I'm leaning towards Flickr I think..
I've never used tapatalk and am very comfortable using my phone with out it when accessing RC.
I've had a Flickr account for like a year that I've never used and recently I noticed that it's been auto uploading all my photos. It's got over a 1000 of my photos that I didn't know where there.. lots of dog, kids and coral shots..
I'll delete and start over, I guess

For those who used Photobucket before, you have till 8/16 to fix your image links.

One option is to add ~original to your current Photobucket URL and your links will work again.

Sorry I have no clue what this means..
The date, or how to add ~original..
Could you explain?
Isn't 8/16 this Wednesday?

I checked your thread, and your photobucket links work. Are you a photobucket paid subscriber? If so, then you really don't need to do anything.

for example, in walt disney acro thread, this link is bad

but adding ~original to the end of the url, it will show the image
