Photos of MaxiMini split (not cut)

I know the raging debate is how to propagate anemones. And, I know this doesn't say anything about anything other than maxi minis. And, lastly, I KNOW people that actively propagate them by cutting and allowing them to heal, and they've been successful. Personally, I am to queasy to do it LOL

BUT! I'm not sure if this is rare or uncommon, or what, but wanted to share these pictures.

A fellow reefer had two pretty red/pink maxi minis in a colander in his tank, and I was like, those are identical! He said, yeah, I only bought one, but it turned into two. Now, he's a ricordea nut, and this really didn't mean anything to him. Me, I read this section of RC religiously, and hadn't really SEEN pictures of this. So, I urged him to take pictures. He didn't. Still hasn't.

But, I downsized my tank, and had 3 maxi minis. Fellow reefer took them. Now, here's the thing, one of them, has this weird noodle thing. Maybe there is a name for it (other than weird tentacle) or there is a name for it's condition (weird tentacle sticking out...) but here it is. This nem was like this, most always.

This picture was taken April 29, 2012. It's showing 4 of the noodle things, usually only 1...

Then....... May 8th, 2012, this picture was taken... and quickly sent to me LOL Oddly enough, I'd seen the anemone, and even commented on the color (as he had it under T-5 and I had it under halides) 2 days prior, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. But here they are.. perfect little clones.. even with the goofy tentacle..

Yes.. lol I know the color is off.. but the content was the intent of the pictures, not the quality lol

Not that I'm arguing, or even doubting you, but the big debate that continues with full size carpets is that noone has ever documented the split. Again, I don't doubt you. I know for a fact that these anemones split naturally. That fact is what makes it possible to split them manually. However, if these were pictures of large carpets, there would be a ton of feedback saying that this proves nothing because you could've just found 2 identical nems and then taken a picture of one, then both.

If they ever split again, it would be REALLY cool to get pics of them during the split. :)

S. tapetum reproduces asexually quite frequently in captivity. It is quite different from S. haddoni or S. gigantea in this respect.

+1....I've heard and read this quite a few times. Awesome...Your maxi mini is very nice...I also have one in my tank and really like it alot. Well....I guess you have two now....Lol!!!!!

Oh absolutely :) I've had S. Haddoni and currently have S. gigantea (also had M. Doreensis as well) that's why my post was so oddly worded LMAO I don't want anyone, at all, to think that I was comparing it to any other type of anemone dividing :)

I wish I had pictures of the during as well. This guy takes lots of pictures though, so, it's likely eventually he'll catch some. This was actually random, lol the intent wasn't to document a split. ;)
