Photos of My Newest Clams

I received two clams yesterday from Barry at ClamsDirect. They arrived in great condition. The first is a 3.5 inch Electric Crocea, the second is a 4.5 inch Teardrop Maxima. Try to ignore the diatom outbreak. It happens every time I do a large water change, even though I'm using RO/DI water with fresh cartridges.

I've been moving the Crocea today onto the rocks. Since Croceas prefer more intense lighting, I want it higher in the tank, but it keep jumping off of the rocks back onto the sand.

I have found it is easier to attach the clam to the rock by placing the rock on and even slightly under the sand bed for a week or two until they start to attach. Then you can move it up to the top.

I've done that with a recent Maxima. Even after it was nicely anchored to the rock in the sand, once I moved the rock/clam to what I thought would be a good spot, it released and jumped when it didn't like the placement. After moving it around several times, it finally liked its position and has remained there ever since.

I usually try different spots until the clam stays put and anchors on its own.

It is a must to position it near the top of the reef near light. Waterflow is not a real big deal, but more is better
