Sorry Fishgutzz :) I've read sp much over the last three months, I have no idea how you can remeber who said what...you're the best Matt. :) I think my brain is just overworked...

that was the premise i was going on last night. watch the male s action. both male and female were blowing on the nest, but i saw no larvae after 1.5 hrs.

they did finally settle down at 3.0 hrs. so thats when i took my snagger out..

i noticed this morning less eggs so they must of staggered the hatching.

for my next batch im going to delay the lights for 2hrs to force them to hatch when i want them to. i did this bec of circumstances on christmas even and recovered arond 600 in about 1 hr. and almost nothing was left after 1.5 hrs.

very odd. since 6 am. when the lights came on, ive lost some eggs.

could they hatch with the lights on? or maybe the male removed them>?

revised snagger 1/6/7

added black floor panel to prevent light from moonlight to shine thru the snagger and light up the sandbed below.

added cross/diagonal panel to reduse flow/whirlpool affect from the suction/pump. the larvae will get pushed thru than the opposite side will have very reduced flow.

im hoping these changes will make the recovery rate even better and maybe less stress on the larvae.

before changes i recovered almost 90% from my second batch. around 600.

third batch. was not good bec of the split hatch.

Sweet mods! BTW, the diagonal panel has more surface area...even better for the babies. Although, the acute corner angle...I've been wondering how many babies MAY get caught up in that. Hasn't happend in my diagonal setup yet, but it's something I'm still keeping an eye on.

yeah that was my initial thought that the babies would hit it when they enter, but my flow is very mod. the shape of the snagger causes any flow inward to dev. a circle motion inside. so this way they can get trapped on the opposite side.

this is all theory of course. we ll see with the next batch.

Try running it in a bucket with some otohime or something..that'll tell you exactly how the water flows before you risk actual larvae...
