Picasso / Rodonyx FIRST BATCH

Well, I don't see any kind of stripes or whit starting yet, but I would say they are atleast starting meta.
Tom

I think the things with PERCULA is that by day 5-6 they turn orange, but in my batches white stripes aren't showing up until more like 8-11 days...at least that's what my gut tells me, I'd have to look for sure. By 2 weeks, they're ALL striped and swimming like little clowns.

Are you giving them BBS yet...I didn't catch that in my quick skim?

Matt

matt , threw some in on day 5 and today,6. i surmise they must of eaten some since , some of the larvae have monster bellies. but i still see quite a few swimming around. im going to try to introduce some oto on day 7.

yeah i agree i my def. turned orange also but i dont see a strip at all. i have about 30 but i think some will have to be culled.

good point matt :)

hey good news today. i actually saw them eating bbs today :)

but im giving them very few at a time to hopefully min. issues with it.

day 8, batch 2

day 14 and i see one of the clowns with a defined headband and hovering on the bottom corner on the silicon. this is late for meta right?

Only 1 headband so far? All of my Batch VI had them by day 7-8. 14 days does seem late considering I just read through my entire Perc thread...I want to say the latest it happened in my batches was maybe 10-11 days on average, with the longest being a runt that took 17 days..

HMM. What temp are you rearing at?

Matt

What foods were started when? I think my larval tank for batch VI is still running at 82-83...don't think it could make that much of a difference so my next place to look is temp COMBINED with foods perhaps? (sorry, it's late, too tired to look back and see if you posted the info already...heck I'm lying and typing looking at this screen sideways...)

Matt

Hmm...I'm just having different experiences with my perc babies...at day 14 or whatever they're at now they take the Otohime with gusto - it's more nutritious than BBS so probably helps them grow out faster. I've just been trying to feed Oto first, then BBS later in the day for those that aren't yet taking the Oto...seems to help them switch over pretty quickly (granted I started with light feedings of Oto as early as Day 6).

FWIW,

Matt

Your better off just sticking with BBS until you get them a little bigger and you get a little more experience under your belt.
This is your first batch and you have done very well. Stick with the basics and master them first. Getting them to feed on the otohime when they are small can be tricky. I like to wean them onto cyclopeeze then move em on to otohime.
