Picasso / Rodonyx FIRST BATCH

thanks for baalz. i was just about to pm you and ask your advise :)

i think my clowns are still going thru meta right now actually. im seeing more and more with headbands. prob around 60% now.

i still have about 27 from my first hatch attempt. i culled 3 yesterday for an enlarge mouth.

right now my second hatch is on night 3. i have about 200 remaining. i think i past my big hurdle. most of the 200 appear to be eating well with enlarged bellies. green water seems to really help them get off the side walls.

I did my first double hatch two weeks ago, two nests at same time. They morphed couple of days ago and what a sight. I can't even imagine how many babies I have in this batch.

Your doing extremely well having 200ish on just your 2nd batch. Just keep them on the BBS until after they have morphed then experiment with the otohime or cyclopeeze if you want. You can just keep using bbs but remember not to overfeed it and make sure your rinsing off the bbs.

baalz, thank you very much. i appreciate your untraditional approach. :) ill will definetly do that.

yes, ive been trying to be careful with the bbs. i only give more after they are completly gone from the tank. i give them 3 days on , 1 day off routine bbs. and continue with rotifers sparingly . i hope to push them to cyclo. after the bbs.

I can only add to the discussion that Otohime A as a food early on (i.e. starting around the same time you'd start BBS) has been a recommendation from multiple sources and certainly has not hurt (of course, providing you keep up with water quality maintenance measures), thys why I tried it and so far, it seems to have been a positive addition. Granted, being alone, fed only once per day, for 4-5 days may be a downside to my Batch VI, but that remains to be seen as they grow out further.

FWIW,

Matt

het matt, here are my clowns from the first batch at day 16 or so.

meta i think is done now ! lol on most atleast lol

LOL, I think they look better than mine (going 4 days with once per day feedings over the holidays I think took a toll)

Matt

oh matt, i thought yours reached meta already.

well im working with one pair, you are breeding everything moving in your place! :)

odd,

my clowns laid there there batch last night. two days before the last. i thought they were suppose to be predictable?

They are through meta and have been for a week...but the "quality" of my babies just doesn't look as good (in my opinion) as yours do...I think they got starved while we were gone despite the heavy daily feedings of BBS.

Matt

batch 1: sun, hatch @ 10 days
batch 2: sat., hatch @ 9 days
batch 3: thurs. hatch @ ?

matt quality? how can you tell the diff? are yours smaller? they have headbands right? i actually saw them eat some oto today so its a good start. but they still prefer there bbs. its a pain hatching the brine, but i have no choice it seems. they have been on bbs for about 8 days now.

kimec, thanks. batch 3 is four days after hatch also. i just hope they settle down and establish a routine.

Keep your chin up. Your doing great for the first couple. I had total losses on my first three hatches, not that my history is work judging anything off of. :) Plan on learning something new with every hatch...I have and can't speak with experience with more than 10 spawns, but I have learned with every only. Stick with it and best of luck...Carl

tks :)

batch 3, day 9, very odd. only half the nest hatched! so i only recovered about 200. :( i was expecting the entire group. not sure why. looks like another night tomm.

is this normal? the unhatched ones seemed to still have black eyes.

I had that problem with my earlier batches until I raised my rearing temp...83-85F and they're popping at day 7, although I THINK some of what disappeared between day 6 and 7 (over 100) may have hatched out in the very late night / early morning of day 6...at least it's an alternate theory to predation.

No silver on the eyes? I bet they have it tomorrow....

Matt

I too have had many two day hatches. It's a pain. My last hatch was at 82f the whole 8 days and hatched well. What's your temp at? I suggest lowering the turbulence from the air stone to not destroy the larva you have. Best of luck...Carl

my temps run around 81.

i do not have them on a tile. i have about maybe 200 left with very silver eyes now.

question. how many hrs to you wait until you know there is not more hatching? last night i waited for 3 hrs until i took out my snagger.

i have so many rotifers in there it s crazy and the water is so green i cant even see bottom of the tank ! lol

there is no way they are starving this time, according to some theories!

if there is a massive die off its not bec of lack of food :) i hope atleast.

my goal with this batch is to prevent any from hanging on the sides with the live phyto.

I may have heard when papa goes to sleep, but 3-4 hrs should be enough. Although I also heard of hatches through the night. Try again tonight and if you can get a tile over their spawning sight right after the hatch, they might take right too it and make life a LITTLE easier later. :) the back of any floor tile cut around 5x5 or lacy pot(tara cotta).
