Picking up new tank in a month looking for stocking suggestions

No one has commented on the Moorish idea. Anyone who has one care to chime in? I have read most all of the MI thread and I know people have problems with them long term, but not all of us have the same knowledge and ability

that's a fish i've never looked into. guess it's similiar to the regal angel where long term
over 2 yrs i guess they begin to deteriorate.

I'm pretty sure SDguy has one and I know that hedgedrew has 3 of them in his 900g. I'm not sure how long either have had them. I have a local buddy with a regal in a 375g that he has had for at least 3 yrs, more like 4. When I say long term I mean 4 years and over

guess things have changed over hte years..
this is the regal angel not tang.
it appears the issue was with the indo-pacific regals, the indian ocean and red sea specimens are reported to be much more long lived.

In a tank that size I'd be tempted to go for a group of Yellow Tangs; a bunch of anthias (bimacs are my favorite), and a nice big naso.

I just saw the guy I was talking about tonight at the LFS, he told me he has had the regal for closer to 6-7 yrs and he got it from a fellow reefer. It isn't the Red Sea variety either.i have come to terms with rethinking the clam for fish, the clam can easily be rehomed. On a side note has anyone got the 160g bucket of instant ocean from LA for the free shirt? Mine and several others I have talked to got their shirt in a bag with holes in it and the shirt was full of salt. LA asked for pics so I forwarded them on to him(same guy above) so we will see what LA does since the response from them was the "bags shouldn't have holes in them" anyone else get one of these buckets?

So I am in siesta key Florida for my 5 yr wedding anniversary. Can anyone recommend some good fish stores to check out? Everytime I travel I check out what LFS have and well Florida is in the top 3 states for saltwater fish stores I would think behind California and Hawaii

I never had success with a group of purples, both times I tried it was a bloodbath. Had much more success with yellows.

If you feel like a little road trip on your anniversary, check out FAOIS in Oldsmar, & Coral Corral a few miles away in Tampa. Both about 45 min--1 hr north of Sarasota & well worth the drive. I lived in St. Pete for years & those are two of my favorite LFS anywhere. If you make it to FAOIS, ask for John, the owner, or Corn Nut Chris...;)

Now that you mention it I haven't ever seen groups in large tanks before, just groups of yellows like you mentioned. I know 5 is a good number or I guess any odd number works.

I have a 320 gal tank. The following is my fish list. You likely not want 10 clown fish in your tank but I got 9 clownfish hosting anemones in my tank.

I have these fishes in the tank
Purple Tang
Yellow tang
One spot Fox face
CB butterfly
Powder Blue Tang in the frag tank will go back in as the last fish
Marine Beta pair
Flame angel pair
Royal Gramma harem 1 male 5 females
Wantanabe angel pair
Lytail Anthias, one male and 5 females
10 Clownfishs a pair Black Snowflakes, an Onyx pair, one Picasso and 5 SnowOnyx

The following fish will be add in the near future:
1 small Regal angel (coming next week)
1 more Copper Band Butterfly

I like to add two more tangs, one small Bristle tooth tang of some kind
Another Acanthurus tang (in addition to the Powder Blue)

Got the tank home after a 21hr door to door trip!

Awesome, congrats! Mine took 12 hours to move and I was exhausted afterwards, can't imagine how you felt. Can't wait to see that come together, love the dimensions!
