pics of my new 75

I have a full refugium and I did it like that anyway. A.T. make sure you get the sock with the zip tie deal on it not the big filter socks things with the big ring. Those are for something else.

several of the local LFS sell them, Oceans Blue, Aqua Studio, The Fish Bowl, etc.

I got mine last week for 8$ a piece from TFB. I got the big ones though, the smaller ones may be cheaper.

The smaller ones I've seen are like 4" wide by 8" long, Mine is a beast like 8" wide by 12-14" long. It has its own section in my sump...lol

Thats kewl, I think the filter sock is awesome, more filtration and less noise...yay!! Even on my wifes wet/dry e removed the bio balls and filter pad and installed a filter sock, and wow what a difference it has made.

sytanek- can you send a picture of your sock setup. I am getting ready to make a fuge and I am gathering ideas of how to implement a filter sock. Also, what size tank and type and how often you have to clean the sock? Thanks, Chris

Well its not as good as a pic i guess, but thats the idea.

Its a 30 gallon sump for a 55 gallon tank.

Love the extra room in the sump, plus it can hold a ton of water.

I have the valve going to the refugium close about 75-80% or so, and the rest of the water goes down to the filter sock.

why did you choose this setup. I was thinking input in a sock with a skimmer in the 1st section, then fuge in 2nd. Then have an external return. This way more room for the fuge and cooler temp bc the pump will be outside the water.

Well I chose this because I wanted a higher flow return system, but was told by lots that extra high flow was not good for a refugium. I also studied about 30 different sump/refugium designs to decide how I wanted to do it. Even a lot of the refugium/sump setups on melevs are done this way.

My fuge is approximately 12 inches wide. My return area is about 8 inches wide, which I like because the system is less affected by evaporation, since I do not have an auto top off system.

The only reason the sock has its own section is to keep it upright...lol

The way I have it seems to be working pretty well, I can give the refugium a variable amount of water flow, instead of a fixed full water flow. There are lots of discussions about how much flow you should be cycling through your tank, with lots of people experimenting with more than 10% flow. I am pushing 15% flow at the moment, and plan on experimenting with different amounts, I think 15% is way to much for flow through a refugium, but thats just what I have concluded from reading and posting.

I love your setup but the only thing that I suggest is to drill for an overflow instead of doing an overflow box.
