"Pink Leather" not opening up anymore?

Hi everyone,

So the receipt from the LFS says it's a "pink leather". Unfortunately, I can't remember anything beyond that.

The last few days it hasn't opened up at all. Someone told me that some secrete a mucus that covers the coral periodically, but I"m not sure...

Yes, leathers will commonly do that. Give it a few days!

When i got my leather coral from the lfs, it did that for 6 weeks. I figured it was a goner. Then one day the polyps just started to extend. I was worried about it, i didn't know better. Now when it closes for a day or so i go owell.

leathers can be very finicky. I have one in my tank that I have had for probably 5 years. today it will open up polyps extended and look great for a month or two and then it might not open again for a month or two you never know. as long as there are no bad spots on it don't worry about it.

i've had the same thing happen,thought they were gone and couple of days later back to normal

Whew! Thanks for the reassurance. I was a little concerned.

Should I try to move it? I noticed that it wouldn't extend when the lights were on, but would usually extend after I turned the lights to the "moonlight" setting. It's about halfway up the tank, so I was concerned that it might be under too strong of a light?

I have a neon green finger leather (similar to yours) which is placed on the bottom of my 90g which is 24" deep. It seem happy down there too. I've not tried to raise it higher since its is doing well. I read that they like lesser light. There is also decent flow along the bottom as well. The polyps extend nicely....especially when the dusk/dawn lights are on.

Mine too, at times will contract to a little ball....and then eventually will open back up. FWIW.
