Pix & ID: Critters that come in your rocks: the good and the bad.

If you can chisel off a piece of the rock it's attached to. If you leave any flesh behind it will just regrow.

Anyone have a good guess as to what this may be? It is black to dark purple in color has a slimy texture and is squishy to the touch.

It is on a large piece of LR in my 29 gallon Nano.

There is around 10 to 15 spots of it on the rock and this is the largest. "around the size of a dime.

I thought it was some form of sponge but it is VERRRRY slow growing and nothing seams to bother it.

Thank you....

First tank and first visable hitchhikers. I know they're brittle stars but anyone know what kind? How big they get? Reef safe? I'm pretty sure there's a bunch in there. Also there is a little star and some sort of sponge.

Last pic shows some sort of elusive pinkish creature i never could get a good look at.

My task is a week old and I'm curious if any of this well even survive since I'm at the beginning of the cycle.

G.Smith, the first picture is an asterina starfish. Some people say take them out, some say leave them in. Your last picture looks like a bristleworm. They're generally harmless, if ugly.

Does anyone know what these little curly things are? They've just appeared on my rocks in the last couple days. They're concentrated on the purple one mostly, but I found some pockets on a different rock that was purchased separately and from a different store, and entered the tank at a different time.

I thought maybe I had some baby snails or something, but they don't seem to be moving, and I think they might be too far spread apart to be that.

The first one is some kind of starfish. It looks like an asterina star but can't see it all too well to say for sure. The 2nd and 3rd pictures are of a brittle star. The last one looks like a bristle worm.

There's a good bit of them. I didn't even notice them until they started moving. They're like the size of a shirt button if not smaller.
