Pix & ID: Critters that come in your rocks: the good and the bad.

What type of anemone is this? Is it a majanos? ImageUploadedByTapatalk1333903716.648770.jpg

Hes rather cute, so I think Ill keep him for now, if he does start to bother my coral how do I get rid of him?

Pretty much any method that you'd use to get rid of aiptasia (lots of threads here on that subject). I can tell you that injecting lemon juice didn't work on mine. They puckered up for a couple days and all but one moved after they got through looking like sourpusses, so that was a good enough result for me.

Twintank, that looks more like a paly to me.

Any idea what these things are living within this coral I have 3 or 4, they don't seem to harm anything but never seen a picture that looks like them

I was about to post a pic of the same thing but now I know. I assume mini brittle starfish are harmless? I recently got coral that has a number on same rock.

If you look at first attachment, I think this is a feather duster under my coral? Just out of curiousity can they move or will this one eventually be crowded out?

Probably wrong forum? sorry! but is this cyano? I am about to try the old 3 days no light trick but before I do just want to check it is actually cyano. Think it is, but the wavy hair look to it now has me questioning it. Is allover tank, although pics show worst areas. Also, in 2nd pic, if anyone can tell me what the.... em plant? growing is as well? Had looked it up but cant remember what it is called now ha.

Last post! :)
Been in tank a while but not sure what it is, I assumed some sort of coral but it is tiny (about an inch across including cyano? covered red bit in middle ha).

Cheers guys. Honestly don't know what I would do without this site!

The starfish sneak out at night (at least mine do). Try giving them some food when you feed, they'll catch it with their legs heheheh.

Jock, 1st pic is a paly or maybe a zoa, but I'm leaning toward paly. It will probably get crowded or stung out. 2nd pic is cyano. On my phone so can't tell last 2 pics, but the final one could be a sponge.

OK, now that I'm on a normal-size computer :lmao:

1st pic is a featherduster. It should be fine there, it might extend its tube if it needs to.
2nd pic is still cyano LOL.
Not sure on the algae, hard to tell when it's young like that.
Last pic is definitely not sponge, but I can't really tell what kind of coral it is. Blow the cyano off of it with a turkey baster.

We just got our TBS live rock and sand in our tank last night. We were able to shake 3 pistol shrimps out during unpacking but are still hearing clicks from the tanks :( So a few skated past us. Traps will be set shortly for them.

We have a few snails on our glass that may be Whelks (sp?)... How do you all feel about those? Are they overly destructive to a reef tank? They are really prefering to remain on the glass which is nice for removal, if that's the route we need to go with them?

We also got at least 3 porceline crabs (tiny) and 1 red minthrax crab. Any opinions on them?

Thanks you.

the one looks like a clear small snail and the other has a worm like body with moving tenticles like a tube anemene
