Pix & ID: Critters that come in your rocks: the good and the bad.

Looks like sponges to me as well. They should be harmless filter feeders and you'll be lucky if they survive in your tank long term. Most, not all, but most sponges don't survive long term in an aquarium.

Sorry, I know these are not the best pics. But is this a Bristleworm?

He does not look bushy enough to me to be a bristleworm.

Some pics of a hitchhiker anemone that came in on a mariculture a while back, anyone know what it is? Last pic is semi closed for a better view of its foot.

Here's a better pic. Under 18k lighting.

No clue what species of anemone it is, really cool looking, but obviously don't want a pest if it is.

May have figured it out, closest thing I can find is that it is a hermit crab anemone of some sort

Came home from a 4 day Eclipse trip and noticed a few new things on a piece of LR...

I think the blue arrow points to some more tunicates, but I'm not 100% sure.

I have no clue what the things are the red arrow is pointing too, but there are a bunch of them as you can see.

I have a bunch of these as well. They full crevices all over the tank, but haven't really "taken over" or anything in the 18 months I've had my tank. Pretty sure they are little clove polyps.

Thanks for the additional info. So they don't appear to be causing any issues for your tank?

I have been waiting patiently hoping that you got a definitive response to this as I also have had a small colony of these appear in my tank and came to the same conclusion as the person you're quoting. So far no issues for me.

Here are a few shots of the ones I have. Just took these 5 minutes ago. They've stayed isolated to the two areas in the first couple pictures. In fact, I think they were on the same parts of those two rocks when I got them 18 months ago. They multiply over time, then seem to die off here and there depending on factors I'm not sure of. But they have never really moved beyond the parts where you see them here. They just increasingly fill those little gaps in the rock, and add to their own density. I added the last pic so you can see just how isolated they've stayed. I don't see them anywhere else in the tank.

At first I was concerned about them, but now I don't even really see them when I look at the tank. They have nice little movement in good flow though, so they get to stay :)

I'm thinking of moving my green macro calurpa to the rock in the first pic, to keep it isolated (those who have/had it will understand why), which will probably end up smothering out some of these little guys, but that's how life on the reef flows.

Thanks for the photos. I've not noticed any of these else where in my tank so far, so hearing that you have not seen any spreading in 18 months is reassuring. Thanks again.

Found a hitchhiker and need some help IDing. Thanks!

I hope the pics attached.

I hate to admit that I don't have any idea what that is, but it sure is pretty.

If I saw that in the wild I'd probably have collected it!
