75 gallon reef with a sump.

2 Percula Clown fish

1 Royal Gramma

1 Fire fish goby

1 blue stripe neon goby

1 Gunnelichthys Curiosus

1 Striped fang blenny

Elacatinus multifasciatus

Amblygobius rainfordi

will these eat or pick on the following,

Lettuce Nudibranch ,Elysia Crispata Im not sure how many I want

Tiger Tail Cucumber, Baseodiscus sp. Im not sure how many I want

sexy shrimp several Thor amboinensis

my local fish store has a white tube anemone it is full grown and I cannot remember the name of it and it is about 2 or 3 inches the tips are red or pink.

I don't think having a "real anemone" in this tank is a good idea? What would you recommend for my clowns, I have 216watt t5s . How many more gobies could I get away with ? Am I pushing my luck?

1 Fire fish goby should be introduced first

1 blue stripe neon goby

1 Gunnelichthys Curiosus requires peaceful neighbors

Lettuce Nudibranch ,Elysia Crispata Im not sure how many I want

This nudibranch is sustained by kleptoplasty and does NOT eat algae

Tiger Tail Cucumber, Baseodiscus sp. Im not sure how many I want One in your sized tank

sexy shrimp several Thor amboinensis

Filter feeders requiring multiple feedings per week.

Correct. Two reasons: tank maturity and they can sting fish and move around to undesirable locations

What would you recommend for my clowns, I have 216watt t5s . How many more gobies could I get away with ? Am I pushing my luck?

Generally your stocking list is fine

72 gallon tank, 27x27x30(tall) with 25g sump.

35lbs of live rock in tank, 12lbs of rubble in sump. I run a skimmer. The tank is reasonably minimalist in terms of rock - there isn't much on the bottom of the tank, but it's built high.

The rock has moved from my 5' to this smaller tank, but has been established rock for 4 years or so. I will be putting 40kg of sand in in the next few months.

Current stocking:
2 x clowns
1 x hippo tang (looking for a new home for him as I had to downgrade my tank)
1 x royal dottyback
1 x LTA

Want to purchase
1 or 2 x peppermint shrimp
1 or 2 x cleaner shrimp
1 x some sort of sand sifting goby - Sleeper Gold Head Goby possibly?
1 x midas blenny
1 x mandarin dragonet
5 x chromis

I'm negotable on all of the fish - these were just the ones I was thinking of that would create a nice balance between bottom/mid/swimmers/schoolers. I'm very concerned about overstocking.

I would wait at least another 6 months before adding a mandarin, even though the rock is established and the tank is crawling with pods, I want to allow the sand I put in to become populated with pods first.

I am concerned that the mandarin and goby might compete for food or fight - is this something I should be concerned about?

1 or 2 x cleaner shrimp
1 x some sort of sand sifting goby - Sleeper Gold Head Goby possibly? will deplete your sand bed of beneficial organisms then starve to death
1 x midas blenny
1 x mandarin dragonet After the tank is 8 months mature
5 x chromis will winnow down to one or at most two

Not with a golden headed sleeper goby, but other gobies/fish may consume pods

My dottyback is actually really laid back, I was worried about him but he's pretty quiet and docile. I've never seen him bug anyone which is really nice.

I thought sleeperhead gobies eat prepared food also? Somehow I thought that they were relatively easy to keep in tanks?

The sandbed would only be for the mandarin and goby, and possibly for the LTA if he decides he's into it.

Is there any other sort of fish that wouldn't be too agressive to create a bit more interest in the tank? Something that won't compete with the other fish directly and won't nip at corals?

Thanks for your help :)

If so, you are lucky, but that may change

Not easy plus they are messy

While I do not give recommendations for a variety of reasons, I will be happy to provide commentary on alternatives you may select

Thanks for your help :)

New Zealand is a gorgeous place to live!

Current Equipment: 49gal tall tank, 65 gal coralife super skimmer, 50gal rated magnum canister filter, 55 gal Rena filter converted to fuge w/ chaeto and 5 red mangroves , Hydor koralia 2 (x2) powerheads , maxijet 400 powerhead, Coralife Power compact 10,000 k & actinic. Marina 1.14w LED for Fuge.
Cycling for two weeks w/ small nitrate spike (20 ppm).

Intended Equipment: one more powermover 3000 l/h? (to blow directly on gorgonian)

Animals in the mail: reef cleaner package 10 dwaft blue leg hermits, 5 nassarius snails, 5 nerith snails. First seeding of amiphipods and copapods.

Intended Fish:
Pair Black & White Occys
Orange Spot Prawn Goby
Tail Spot Blenny
Cherub Angel

Intended Inverts:
Halloween Hermits 3?
Electric Blue Hermit 3?
Scarlet Hermits 3?
"Little Red" fromia starfish 1

Intended Corals: Birdsnest, Blastomussa merletti, Whisker coral, Scroll coral, Frogspawn, Nepthia Leather, star polyp, Photosynthetic Frilly Purple Gorgonian (Live Aquaria), zoas, Mushroom Leather & Button polyps, Blue & Superman mushroom polyps ......and maybe one day Black & Yellow Sun polyps & a Chili coral.:inlove:

Plan on letting tank continue cycling for another 2-3 months with cleaner pack only while building our liverock structure with epoxy and seeding different pods every 2 weeks till nitrate is 0 and pods are well established.

Does this list sound good?

Should we add fish or corals first?

I am not a fan of hermit crabs or crabs of any sort.

This thread is about fish compatibility so I do not comment on corals

Good plan, fish or corals can be first or mixed

Niger triggers can go either way: passive (at least for triggers but most call all triggers aggressive) or total terrors. In any case, your inverts will be toast. Triggers are really for FOWLR with aggressive tank mates.

I have a 40B that's been up and running for 6 months. More details in my sig. I have a few corals (2 zooa frags, small colt coral, 2 small leather corals, GSP rock, small patch of anthelia's and a few mushrooms). I have a full spectrum of snails and a fairly well populated 2" sandbed (purchased spaghetti worms, amphopods, and bristle worms). Right now the sand and rocks are crawling with pods. Anyway, it's time to get a couple of fish. (My wife wants to know when I am finally going to put fish in the fish tank, go figure!)

I was thinking about:
A couple of clownfish? Which species is the least aggressive and will be ok in a 40 gal tank? I think I remember reading somewhere that it is best to get two. Is that correct?

And I was thinking of a royal gramma

Would these guys get along?

Comments and suggestions are welcome.
Thank you

When getting a pair, it is important to get very small ones and let them figure out who will be female. Amphiprion percula or ocellaris would be best. (I am not a big believer in "designer clowns", which are modified versions of the preceding, but those would also work)

And I was thinking of a royal gramma

Yes

Oh, by the way, my tank has suspended lights and is not covered. Are the above mentioned fish jumpers? I'd really prefer not to have to cover the tank unless absolutely necessary. Thanks again,
Tom

All fish can jump. Those above do not have a high propensity for jumping.

Thank you so much for your time, it is so nice to get a veterans advice....we know a little but it's hard know for sure because every book, article and thread has different opinions.

Sorry for the coral faux pas....oops :headwally:

I will post that elsewhere and pay closer attention next time...

Oh it was not a faux pas at all. I simply limit the thread to very fish related questions. Yes, there are a wealth of opinions around, some more valid than others. In general, be wary of "I heard that . . . " or "I read that . . ." because the context is not given and it can make all the difference in the world.
