Hello:

I was wondering if these fish would all get along in a 30G FOWLR tank. The first three are fish I already have in my 14G BioCube that I'll be moving over and the other two species are the ones I'd like to add. Thanks for your help and suggestions...I appreciate your time!

Six Line Wrasse this fish will be a problem
Yellow Clown Goby
Sharknose Goby
Green Chromis (X2) may not be stable as a pair in this sized tank
Black & White Clownfish Is this a pair? If not, what species?

This is my wish list for a 90 gallon mix reef tank. Inhabitants consist of snails, blood red fire shrimp, 2 Ocellaris Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris) and 1 Royal Gramma Basslet (Gramma loreto

I would like to know will I have any compatibility issues and would this be overstocking the tank.

1 Yellow Watchman Goby (Cryptocentrus cinctus)
4 Cardinalfish (Sphaeramia nematoptera)
1 Ignitus Anthias (Pseudanthias ignitus) Male
3 Ignitus Anthias (Pseudanthias ignitus) Female
1 Green Mandarin (Synchiropus splendidus) (maybe after 6 months)

Thanks for the help

You should be fine but wait 8 months on the mandarin

This is the Black and White Ocellaris Clownfish (a single fish, not a pair). And I can go with a single Green Chromis instead of two since it's only a 30G tank. It sounds like returning the Six-Line Wrasse to my LFS might be a good idea also.

Returning the sixline is a great idea. A single chromis eliminates that problem so otherwise you will be fine.

future fish?

future fish?

im starting a 20 gallon long with a 10 gallon sump.
itll be my first sump setup and my second tank and the real reason im starting this tank is because when i started i didnt know anything and i made alot of mistakes. ive been researching for months now and have finally ordered most of my stuff.
when i start the tank i would like to move in my pair of clown fish.
--i added a black one to keep my orange one company and they decided to pair
up--exciting!
--i also wanted to add 2 or 3 chromis-- leaning toward 3 very very small ones and let them grow. i like the way they school and i saw some at the lfs several weeks ago that were soo tiny.
--also a randall's pistol shrimp and a goby of some kind (suggestions welcome)

--ive gotted a few suggestions about a CUC but if anyone has any ideas id like to hear them as well. id like a cleaner shrimp but i understand pistol shrimp like to shoot other shrimp..

any help i can get would be nice..super excited to start this tank. thanks everybody =)

a pair of bonded clownfish will want to totally control that 20 gallon tank

That will not work in your sized tank; you will end up with just one at best

This thread is answered only by Reef Central Staff, in this case me.

You've helped me before, thanks! Back again with a question. I now have a firefish and a BSJ. Both doing fine and the BSJ is even living where I wanted him to in a PVC thingy.

I want to add a blenny (barnacle?), a randall shrimp/goby pair, and either a possum wrasse or a yellow assessor. I was thinking this is the order I should add them in and wanted your take on order of introduction. Thanks in advance.

I have some barnacles in there....is it just the barnacle blenny that will perhaps utilize them, or might any blenny do so?

i did not know only rc staff could answer.. im new to the forum
but what (if any) goby would you recommend? is one better than another? would one be more likely to pair with the shrimp than another?

and what kind of clean up crew would you recomend?

The jawfish might not like a shrimp/goby pair but the possum wrasse or yellow assessor would be fine.

The barnacle blenny will, other blennies may or may not.

This is the only thread that is like this. We try to keep it an expert thread rather than an opinion thread as all other threads are.

For a variety of reasons we do not do recommendations. However, if you go to the Live Aquaria website here they provide a list of gobies and indicate which ones will form a symbiotic relationship with pistol shrimp.

and what kind of clean up crew would you recomend?

Clean up crew recommendations can be easily obtained by posting a question in the New to the Hobby Forum which can be found here.

When it comes to a pair of clownfish (ocellaris), is it better to buy a pair from the LFS and put them in at the same time, or buy one at a time and give the tank (and it's bacteria) time to acclimate more slowly.

Slower is almost always better in this hobby, but in this case I worry that the pairing may be harder than if they're added at the same time.

(additional note: I'm not entirely sure that the pairs at the LFS are mated pairs, but they do keep them in individual tanks with one bigger than the other and sell them as pairs, so they're at least suitable to pair up)

Assuming that your tank is fully cycled, it does not really make a lot of difference if you:

+buy two small juveniles
+buy a bonded pair

but just getting a large one and small one may or may not work.

I have a 29 gal Biocube and am thinking about purchasing a bubble tip anemone, a pair of black and white clownfish, a fire shrimp, and maybe a starfish.

For a tank of this size with the above animals in there, how many hermit crabs and snails would you recommend I get?

Actually this thread is specifically about marine fish compatibility with each other and the environment provided. Best to post your question about clean up crew as a separate post in New to the Hobby.

Hi guys!

This is my first post in RC. Have been reading around RC for a few months now and its been so informative! You guys rock!

I am planning to setup my first SW tank in a few months and was wondering if you guys can help me out with choosing my fish stock…

The plan is to have an SPS reef tank along with clams, but I don’t plan to add any corals or anemones for atleast 6 months to a year…

Dimensions I am planning for is 72”x18”x22” & a 50g sump.

My fish stock plans for now is

Yellow Tang (1)
Blue Hippo Tang (1)
Ocearalis clown (2)
Blue – green chromis (6)
Skunk shrimp(2)

Out of these, which would be a good beginner fish?

I don’t plan to have any corals or anemones for now, will the clowns be ok without one?

Also how abt the Cleaning crew? My LFS has only shrimps… I have not yet been able to find any snails here… Will it be ok to go without them?

What other fish can I add? I have the below options available at my LFS in the order of my preference…

Anthias Red Lyretail
Royal gramma
GOBY PURPLE FLAME
Fire goby (jumper?)
Banggai cardinalfish
Copper Band Butterfly (probably after a year??)
Flame angel (safe to corals, clams n inverts?)
Strawberry dottyback (compatible with royal gramma?)
Wrasse Six Line (reef safe? Aggressive?)
Blenny Bicolor (reef safe?)
Doctor Blue Wrasse
Dotty Back Skunk (too aggressive?)
Yellow Long nose Butterfly fish (reef safe?)
