I was thinking about getting a Bartlett's anthia, but have read in a couple places that they prefer to be fed several times a day. Since this will be difficult with my schedule, I wanted to check with people to see if they do OK with once a day feeding, or if I would be best off choosing a different fish.

anthias in general, due to their high metabolism do best with multiple small feedings. Some can get away with only two feedings, however. This thread is only answered by Reef Central Staff, so I am the only one answering it.

Thanks - You confirmed what I was thinking; Anthias probably aren't the best fit for my tank/schedule. At least until I get an automatic feeder.

I currently have the following in my 280g FOWLR:
3 chromis
pair of Oscellarus
gold headed sleeper goby
flame angel
wrasses-exquisite, xmas, lineatus
Mimic tang (about 2 in)
Blond Naso (about 5 in)
Magnificent Fox Face

My future plans include:
Possibly a couple add'l fairy/flasher wrasses
Harlequin Tusk
Bellus Angel
Blue Jaw Trigger
Blue Face Angel

My question is - considering my current stock list and future plans what do you think about adding a Paracanthurus hepatus? I may also consider a purple tang at the end of this list (I know they can be aggressive but hopefully will be ok if he is added last).

I have heard the Paracanthurus hepatusare more difficult and get ich if you look at them wrong but please help educate me before I consider purchasing one. They have a really nice, hardy one about 4 in. at a LFS that I trust, but wanted to check with you first.

Thanks!

You have a large number of large fish. They may make your tank look small. There are no obvious behavioral incompatibilities with P. hepatus, however

Steve,

Any thoughts on the interaction between c. Excuisitas and other wrasses such as p. carpenteri or any of the possum wrasses? Or comments on the exquisite's behavior in general?

Thanks

There would be no interaction with any of the three species of possum wrasse and fairy wrasses. Normally fairy wrasses and flasher wrasses will not interact although I am less sure of C. scottorum which, depending on collection area, may do so. Exquisite wrasses are normally peaceful. But all this is predicated on reasonable tank size which should be 75 gallons or greater, ideally with caves and overhangs.

hello everyone
I have a 75 gal reef 3-4inch DSB 125 lbs live rock 20 gal sump/ref with cheato, s-120 skimmer, pho reactor. about 20 astrea snails, 2 pep shrimp, 1 cleaner shrimp, 2 black snowflake clowns, 1 ocillaris clown, 1 flame angel. tank is 55 days old. also 400w MH, and 2 60w actinic blue led strips. am i gonna have issues????

Ok this is a tenative stocking plan for my 40B set up. It will have either a 20g or 29g sump and fuge setup.

Fish:
1x Ocellaris Clownfish (tank bred)
5x Blue/Green Chromis
1x Firefish goby
1x Bicolor Blenny
1x Bangaii Cardinal
1x Six-line Wrasse (maybe on this one)

Corals:
I plan on having Zoas, Pulsing Xenia, and either a Colt or Kenya Tree. I am also considering some GSP, all depends on the availability locally. I plan on keeping the Colt/Kenya tree and pulsing xenia on its own seperate rock(s) to keep them from overrunning everything.

Cleaners:
1x Dwarf Blue-leg Hermit
1x Emerald Crab
8x Cerith Snail
8x Nassarius Snail
1-2 shrimp, not sure which kind yet.

Only two clowns per normal sized tank; the third one will be killed

1x Bicolor Blenny
1x Bangaii Cardinal be sure it is tank raised
1x Six-line Wrasse (maybe on this one) very aggressive, avoid

"5x Blue/Green Chromis will become one over time"

I had read they school in groups of 5 or more. Hmm I'll have to adjust plans down to 1 and figure out another fish or two to add in.

I do have a question, would a Green Clown Goby or a Court Jester Goby have problems with the firefish and vice versa?

No fish will school in normal sized home aquaria. Some will shoal. A clown goby and firefish are compatible for sure.

SW Noobs.

The wife and I have been successfully breeding freshwater dwarf shrimp for several years, and have had tanks all our lives. We have finally decided to take the leap from our freshwater planted tank setups to a salt water tank. The tank we will be getting is a 75 gal rimless JBJ cube system. We are planning a reef, and have a TON of research to do still before we move. But that's the basis for what we want to accomplish. Wish us luck!

When you wish to have a compatibility analysis done on your marine fish stocking list, feel free to check back.

I have a 24 gallon nano, about 20lbs live rock. Mostly acans and zoas/palys. Right now i have a diamond goby, clown, and a green mandarin. I would like to add 1 more fish, something colorful that would help with worms and/or algea on the return.

Maybe some kind of wrasse? What would you recommend as fitting tank mates?

As those who follow this thread know, I do not provide recommendations for a variety of reasons. Your mandarin, without special effort, will not survive long term in that tank.

Ok, thanks. I am not sure what your "long term" timeline is, but the mandarin has been in the tank for about 10 months so far. He is fat and happy, he eats prepared foods and i do add pods to the tank every other month or so just to keep up the population just in case.
