As those who follow this thread know, I do not provide recommendations for a variety of reasons. I am happy, however, to analyze any stocking plan provided.
Steve thanks so much for your help to date, do you comment on stocking order or tangs? If so...
If you remember you had suggested I could go with 5 Non-Naso + 1 Naso. I had chosen the following list and order, (was still missing my 5th non-naso)
Scopas Tang - Zebrasoma scopas
Kole Tang - Ctenochaetus strigosus
Blonde Naso Tang - Naso elegans
Acanthurus would ideally be added concurrently
- Atlantic Blue Tang - Acanthurus coeruleus
- Powder Brown Tang - Acanthurus japonicus
I'm having to revamp this list as I can't find the fish I want in the order I want and I wanted to see if there is a problem with my new approach.
Scopas Tang - Zebrasoma scopas - 3.5" - moved out of QT and into DT this past weekend
Next Round:
Desjardini Tang - Zebrasoma desjardini - 1.5" to 2.5" or 2.5 to 3.5" (I was thinking the smaller one)
Blonde Naso Tang - Naso elegans - 4" to 6"
Future Round:
Kole Tang - Ctenochaetus strigosus
Acanthurus would ideally be added concurrently (could I do any two of the below?)
- Atlantic Blue Tang - Acanthurus coeruleus
- Powder Brown Tang - Acanthurus japonicus
- Powder Blue Tang - Acanthurus leucosternon
So does the Desjardini mess up the mix or does this order and approach seem problematic?

I'm looking to set up a 5 footL 100 gallon soon, and I'm in my 'research' stage, since I've been 'out of service' for about two years since breaking down my last tank, I want to get a Trigger, never had one before and ALWAYS wanted one, I do intend to put him last, but with that in mind, and the size tank I would be working with, my question is, what kind of trigger is suitable for this size tank, and would a Fox face, Naso tang, and an Angel be ok?
A white Bristle tooth tang is excellent. A desjardini gets too large for your tank. Achilles needs no other tangs in your sized tank but is excellent if you have good flow.
In your sized tank, if you want a trigger, I would ONLY have the trigger as a species tank, but would get one of the spectacular ones such as undulated trigger, queen trigger, or clown trigger. Even if you did not have a trigger, I would not put any species of naso tang or large angel.
i have two mp40s and 1350 return pump do you think that would be enough flow for the Achilles?
Should be. They live in the wild in areas with surge so if you can replicate that, it would be great.

I need a larger footprint I assume, if I went back to a 230 with a 6' footprint would it be acceptable?
Triggers are aggressive to super aggressive. And it turns out, the more beautiful they are, the more aggressive they are. I would not recommend triggers except in species tanks. And I do not provide commentary or analysis on aggressive community tanks. But without any trigger, a 230 gallon six foot long tank would be fine for a large angel, but an 8 foot tank would be required/desired for any Naso tang.

Thanks for your reply. One other fish I was considering is a Mystery Wrasse. Would his addition be ok or would you drop one fish for this? I would probably drop the Chromis for the mystery wrasse if that would be best. I don't want to overload my tank. Thanks!
No problem with bioload. Not shrimp safe or compatible with fairy or flasher wrasses.

Flasher wrasse trio (2 female/1 male) "“ problem w/ melanurus?
Blenny "“ torn between starry and tailspot
Dwarf angel "“ coral beauty or Potter's
Yellow tang
Do you see any issues with tang being too aggressive with with the other, more peaceful fish? Any problems with my order of addition? Bioload?

2 emerald crabs / 20 scarlet red hermits / 5 blue hermits I need to remove!
20 trochus snails / 3 Mexican turbos / 20 bumble bee snails / 2 conches
Is there any problem with that stock list? Can I add more? I would like to add the following:
Flame angel
Achilles or Naso or Sohal Tang (obviously just one of these, but which?)
More bangai?
I would add this is a 60% sps and 40% lps tank with no softies other than GSP
I have a waterblaster 5000 return with 2 mp40s and a 100g Rubbermaid sump with a reef octopus sro5000sss skimmer. Using zeobak and zeostart with carbon and gfo in brs reactor.
