I just moved to a 75 gallon tank and am going to replace my ocellaris clown( one jumped the tank and I am trading the other for credit) with a pair of either Clarkii, cinnamon, or designer percula(onyx or Picasso). My current fish are as follows:
Yellow watchman and pistol shrimp
Purple firefish
Orchid dottyback

Future(wants)
Dwarf angel (flame or coral beauty)
Fairy wrasse
Pair of clowns
Suggestions?

Thanks Steve!! Is there any trigger that could be added? Thanks again for all of your input. It's much appreciated!

Difficult in a six foot tank. Crosshatch is somewhat doable, but their size makes an 8 foot tank more desirable. It is not gallonage, but length is the more important aspect.

There is a significant different in the aggressiveness of the species you are considering once they are bonded. The designer clowns are least aggressive once bonded and mating, the clarkii are the most aggressive followed closely by the cinnamon clownfish.

My current fish are as follows:
Yellow watchman and pistol shrimp
Purple firefish
Orchid dottyback

Future(wants)
Dwarf angel (flame or coral beauty)
Fairy wrasse
Pair of clowns I assume this is not a second pair of clowns since that will not work
Suggestions?

Only one pair of clowns. Are the Clarkii and Cinnamon clowns so aggressive that they would kill the other tank mates I have listed?

Unless you have a very large tank, only one pair of clowns irrespective of species. Yes, clarkii clowns are aggressive second only to GSM clowns.

So I have a 125 g tank.. Two years running. Starting to look good with tangs, angles and butterfly's.... Outbreak of ich hit and one by one lost a good part of my tank.
Thinking of a uv sterilizer?????
Now thinking of rebuilding and change of plans...
Loved my Copperband and Falcula butterfly's...
BUT.. I am now thinking of more disease resistant fish...
I still have my Sailfin and Clown tang and Ocellaris clown.
So... I'm thinking now Lion fish..
Not sure if the Ocellaris clown will last, or possibly trade him in for a Maroon clown.
I would like to replace my yellow tang.
And from what I understand a Marine Betta would be good companion.
Any other suggestions on tank mates with the route I'm going??

Here is my wish list of fish in my 46g bow front tank.
Will this amount of fish work; could I put any more in? Suggestions?

Fish:
Tiger Watchman Goby
High Fin Red Banded Goby
Ocellaris Clownfish pair
Kaudern's Cardinal x 3
Mandarin Dragonet
Lawnmower Blenny
A type of Flasher Wrasse

Inverts:
Banded Coral Shrimp
Pistol Shrimp
Various snails for CUC
Various hermits for CUC
Possibly 1 or 2 emerald crabs
Feather Duster

Sorry, I was just stating that I only wanted one pair of clowns. I need to work on my wording. Thanks for the input! Looks like I may go the perc route.

Thinking of a uv sterilizer????? not effective at preventing or treating ich
Now thinking of rebuilding and change of plans...
Loved my Copperband and Falcula butterfly's...
BUT.. I am now thinking of more disease resistant fish... no fish is resistant to ich
I still have my Sailfin and Clown tang which require a larger tank and Ocellaris clown.
So... I'm thinking now Lion fish.. which will consume any fish half its size
Not sure if the Ocellaris clown will last, or possibly trade him in for a Maroon clown. either will be eaten

And from what I understand a Marine Betta would be good companion. eats small fish
Any other suggestions on tank mates with the route I'm going??

Sorry, but I do not provide commentary or analysis on aggressive fish tanks. As those who follow this thread know, I also do not provide suggestions or recommendations

Fish:
Tiger Watchman Goby I would suggest only one goby
High Fin Red Banded Goby
Ocellaris Clownfish pair
Kaudern's Cardinal x 3 a tank raised male female pair would work, three will become two or possible one if all the same sex
Mandarin Dragonet needs a larger, mature tank or a producing refugium
Lawnmower Blenny
A type of Flasher Wrasse requires a tightly covered tank as this is a prolific jumper

Inverts:
Banded Coral Shrimp
Pistol Shrimp
Various snails for CUC
Various hermits for CUC
Possibly 1 or 2 emerald crabs
Feather Duster

Hi Steve,

120g mixed reef, current fish are:

Radiant wrasse
McCoskers Wrasse
Sunburst Anthias
tailspot blenny
randall goby

I'd like to add (in this order?):

Copperband butterfly
watanabei Angel
Kole yellow eye or lemon mimic tang

1) Any issues with the CBB and either of the tangs or the Angel?

2) Any behavioral differences between the 2 tangs that should factor into my choice, based on stocking list?

3) Assuming the above is all added over a period of time, would i be able to add a Leopard wrasse of some sort as a final fish down the road, or will the tang and angel prohibit a shy fish like a leopard wrasse?

Thanks as always for your advice!

1) Any issues with the CBB and either of the tangs or the Angel? no. however CBB are sensitive to the mood of co-inhabitants and ideally should be introduced first. CBB are a mixed bag in terms of success, with the Australian versions being easier and in general more successful. Note the CBB are not guaranteed to be reef safe; about 50% of the time they are not, and they are definitely not clam safe

2) Any behavioral differences between the 2 tangs that should factor into my choice, based on stocking list? kole tang, if available is somewhat more docile

3) Assuming the above is all added over a period of time, would i be able to add a Leopard wrasse of some sort as a final fish down the road, or will the tang and angel prohibit a shy fish like a leopard wrasse? a leopard wrasse depends on species to a large degree. If they are healthy, they are not difficult with peaceful inhabitants, but they should be dewormed with Prazipro always, and need a fine sand for escape when introduced.

Thanks as always for your advice!

Always a pleasure.

What are your thoughts on a Pyramid butterfly instead of a CBB? From everything i read, they are reef safe, but i am right at the minimum suggested tank size.

As far as the Leopard wrasse, I really like the bipartitus. I do have a fine sand substrate (the Radiant wrasse buries himself nightly like clockwork)

Completely different. Both the yellow and black (Zoster) would do well. They do get large, however.

bipartus is excellent, and readily available (even the African endemic) but must be dewormed, and must be healthy with no mouth damage. If buying locally, make sure they eat PE mysis.

55G reef tank (Have not added yet but plan to focus on zoas and ricordea.)
80lbs of dead/live rock
3in sandbed.
5G refugium with tons of macro algae.

Stocking list:
Currently have:
2x Peppermint shrimp
2x PJ Cardinals
1x banggai Cardinal
1x Blue Neon Goby
1x Golden Midas Blenny(new arrival hoping it adds more movement/color)

Would like to add
2x osc. clowns
1x pygmy cherub angelfish
over the next 2 months

Then I would also like to add a shrimp/goby pair OR a mandarin goby later on. I think this is wishful thinking though. Please advise or throw out some recommendations.

a mandarin is not likely to do well long term unless you add a producing refugium but the shrimp/goby would be fine. Definitely not both as your tank is getting a bit crowded

Sleeper Banded Goby (Amblygobius phalaena) does this species pair with a shrimp? reading conflicting information. I was thinking this would be a better option than the mandarin. Should i wait awhile and let the microfauna in my sand bed get more established if i go this route?

Also what order should I add the clowns and angel and sleeper goby(if i go sleeper over a wheelers goby/tiger pistol combo)? I am going to get juvi clowns so they will hopefully pair up. I am just afraid once they pair up i wont be able to add anything else to the tank.

Hi Steve!
Thank you for your previous help, I have added a sailfin blenny who is doing very well.
So I would like to ask about my next panned addition.

56 g FOWLR
Toby Puffer
Ocellaris Clown
Coral Beauty
Sailfin Blenny

would like to add
Flasher Wrasse
Court Jester Goby

Thanks!
