Been a while since my last post here. Here is the revised list below.

Tank is 220 gallon (260+ total volume) w/live rock, 3-4" sandbed, sump, skimmer, MH + T5 lighting. Tank will have mixed variety of coral SPS/LPS and softies.

Tank already has the following:

  • Mated pair True Perc clowns
  • Yellow Wathman goby
  • Snapping Shrimp
  • Cleaner Shrimp
  • 2 Fire Red Shrimp
  • Many snails, probably 4-5 varities
  • Couple of hermit crabs that snuck in with the snails

Looking to eventually add the following:
  • Exquisite wrasse male and female
  • yellow banded possum wrasse male and female
  • carpenters flasher wrasse male and female
  • Mccosker's flasher wrasse male and female
  • Linespot flasher wrase male and female
  • Banggai Cardinalfish - How many will get along?
  • Yellow Tang - At the end
  • Yellow Eye Kole Tang or Chevron Tang
  • Hippo Tang
  • Blue Dotted Jawfish
  • Power Brown Tang
  • Purple Firefish
  • Green Mandarin
  • Bartlett's Anthias - How many will get along? Ratio of male to female?
  • Also wondering if I could do a 2nd set of a goby and snapping shrimp? I love to see them hang out together.

Thanks for taking the time to help! Also looking for recommendations on the order in which I should introduce the fish to the tank. I now the general recommendation is least->most aggresive. Looking for specific feedback on this list.

  • Banggai Cardinalfish - How many will get along? male plus female
  • Yellow Tang - At the end
  • Yellow Eye Kole Tang or Chevron Tang
  • Hippo Tang I would not do this in less than an 8 foot tank
  • Blue Dotted Jawfish needs cooler (72-75 F) temperatures and a substantial sand bed
  • Power Brown Tang I would definitely not do three tangs
  • Purple Firefish introduce early but unlikely to work with the flasher wrasses above
  • Green Mandarin
  • Bartlett's Anthias - How many will get along? Ratio of male to female? Bartlett's while easy tend to become predominantly male which, of course can be a problem
  • Also wondering if I could do a 2nd set of a goby and snapping shrimp? I love to see them hang out together. only one set unless a bonded male and female but you can have multiple snapping shrimp per goby

Least to most aggressive is the correct order but multiple tangs complicates matters since once established, tangs can become very aggressive towards conspecifics.

so no trigger. Already planning getting a bigger tank in a few years. Will wait for trigger. Everything else ok with trigger out of the picture?

need help deciding between a flame angel or a flameback angel, any thoughts or input? thanks.

i have a 90 gal tall with around 30 gal sump.
current fish list is a follows;
2 green chromis
2 perc clowns
six line
royal gamma

i plan on also adding a kole tang. the kole and angel will prob be the last 2 fish i add.
i also have a mixed reef of soft, lps, sps. not a bunch as of now but intend on adding more in the future. i know that an angel can be a prob with a reef but i would be willing to take the risk i guess, unless otherwise convinced its not best.

thanks for any help you can provide.

steve, i would love your take on this, thanks.

75 gal, 30 gal sump, 50lbs live rock, 50 dry rock, 40lbs sand, 300 gph return pump(that is what it is doing, actually rated at 700), 2 1300 gph pwrhds.
list
2 ocellaris
3 pajama cardinal
1 flame angel
1 yellow tang
1 longnose hawk
1 lawnmower
1 Picasso trigger
1 fox face
some sort of dither fish
lfs said I could keep 1 ocellaris and 1 black ocellaris together?
had a trigger before with cardinal and tang and lawnmower with no problems, maybe just lucky?

minus the trigger, what order should I add them in?
thanks for the help and reliable info

steve, i would love your take on this, thanks.

Behaviorally, they are equivalent. I personally have a harem of the flamebacks, however they are in a much larger tank; they mate every night at sunset (my lights simulate sunset). Flame angels can be found in 3 different morphological forms but all have the same behavior. Either would work fine, I personally like them both but chose the flamebacks.

Snorvich,
I know your time is probably in short supply but you offer excellent insight into fish compatibility. Would you review my wish list on the previous page. I'm a prolific reader (between saltwater fish keeping and WWII history) but I would appreciate your expertise concerning my list. I have read most of the posts on the forum and usually research my purchases prior to introducing them to an established aquarium but I've been out of the hobby for 2 years and don't want to make any mistakes. I've owned all the fish on the list except the orange shoulder tang when I had 4 tanks running simultaneously and always had good success but this will be my first aquarium devoted to corals and reef safe fish. Your assistance is definitely appreciated. Thank you in advance!

75 gallon. have 2 false clowns and a hippo tang all about an inch long. thinking about adding 2 female flame wrasse and 6 green chromis and maybe a lemonpeel or coral beauty angel.

I will be happy to provide analysis if you give me a stocking list an environment. It is infeasible for me to go back pages.

Hepatus tangs need an 8 foot 240 gallon tank as a minimum. 6 chromis will become one or at most two. coral beauty angel will work fine.

Thank You, I did just notice some brown looking algae growth on the sides of the aquarium and I think this is the normal cycling process ?

Should I scrap it off or let the tank do its thing ?

I have read both, so I would appreciate again your opinion. Maybe that should be a whole new thread all together.

Yes, it should be a new thread. This thread is only about marine fish compatibility.

Thanks once again, I have 2 tanks cycling at the same time. Both are 220g with identical equipment. Each tank has a reef sump 300 with fuge and an inside the main tank a hanging refugium. Each has an octopus 250g skimmer, koralia smart wave, 3 magnum 5 pumps producing 1650gph/ea, refractometer, uv sterilizer, and 3 radion led g2's each. I split my old LR so each tank has roughly 350# of established 10 year old rock on a 4" aragonite sand bed. I know you don't deal with the aggressive tank but fortunately that is the area I have more experience with. I want one of the tanks to become a mixed reef eventually but I want to make sure all my future inhabitants get along peacefully. The tank is 72x24x30.

Future list:
1. Royal gramma
2. Spot breast angel
3. Foxface Lo
4. Orangeshoulder tang - the only fish on the list I haven't owned but I have had other tangs in the past with good success, probably because I only keep one in any given tank.
5. Six line wrasse or Mystery wrasse - I read about your aversion (for lack of a better word) to owning a sixline but as long as I don't have plans to add another pod eater would it still work well with the others?
6. A pair of ocellaris clowns
7. A couple of barnacle blennies or a close relative

These would be the only fish added over the tank's life with the exception of snails, conch and cleaner shrimp. thank you for taking the time to help a reef building beginner!

I have a 65 gallon tank. Canister filter it is a 400 gph. I have a Eshopps PSK-100 skimmer. My sand bed is about 3 inches deep. I have about 50 to 60 lbs live rock. It's has been up and running since the last week of January
I have 3 pajama cardinals, 1 clown, and 1 scarlet wrasse. 1 bubble coral.

I would like to add

1 midas blennie
1 royal gramma basslet
1 flame angel or coral beauty ( I know to add this last and that it might bother my bubble.)
I would like to add a mandarin, but I won't until my tank has been up a year.
I wanted a blue dot jaw fish, but I see where you say they need cooler water, so I guess he's out.

Thanks in advance.

The stocking list above is fine. #5 will limit future inhabitants with either choice.

I would like to add

1 midas blennie will nip at fins of water column fish
1 royal gramma basslet
1 flame angel or coral beauty ( I know to add this last and that it might bother my bubble.) Either is behaviorally the same but normally a bubble coral should be ok with either
I would like to add a mandarin, but I won't until my tank has been up a year.
