How difficult is the potter's angelfish. Is it because of its feeding habits?
want: midas blenny
Current tank:
40b lps/softies 80# live rock
20l sump w/live rock + chaeto
Current inhabitants:
1 blue tang (removing)
1 platinum clown
2 green chromis
1 spotted mandarin two dragonettes in a 40 gallon tank will not work when one by itself needs a 75 gallon mature tank unless exceptional feeding techniques are employed.
1 ymg
1 red dragonette
what do you think?
It is impossible to answer that question other than to suggest it for experienced dwarf angelfish keepers. it requires a mature tank with lots of grazing and appropriate feeding protocols.
Okay, thanks for the warning. I'll look into a flame instead, liveaquaria says that's the care level is moderate instead of difficult.
Is it possible to keep an orchid dottyback and royal gramma in a 220g reef with plenty of live rock, or will they fight since they have similar life cycles (ie habitat, diet...)
Can I introduce one black/white Ocellaris with one Orange Ocellaris if I do it at the same time. Or are they a no go when placed together? Not trying to breed them, just think there both awesome to look at.
First time posting on here, I hope I am doing it correctly.
Currently i have a 125G, 6 ft long. I want to add corals eventually.
Fish:
2 x oscellaris clownfish
1 x azure damselfsh may preclude some future tank mates; aggressive
1 x odonus niger (very small right now) Really needs a larger tank, at least 180 gallons; may preclude other tank mates but this species can be moderately to very aggressive depending on the fish
Looking to add:
1 x foxface lo
1 x coral beauty angel
1 x scooter blenny (once tank has been up and running for a while)
those fish should be fine subject to the triggers whim
If I add those, is that the limit? Could I add a group of cardinals or any other fish?
Thanks!
snorvich, as always thank you in advance for your help, my question, is it possible to have a Tomini and a Kole together?
The tank volume is 75 gallons
Regards
I went to www.liveaquaria.com and used the filters to get a list of reef-compatible fish that would fit my tank (65-gallon: 36 long x 18 deep x 24 tall) and tried to eliminate anything that was a definite no in terms of fish compatibility. The chart did show some of the fish as caution required with each other, so any feedback on combinations you think are definite No's from experience would be great. Lastly, I'm hoping I can get a little extra help in terms of how many of the fish I can safely stock knowing that I plan on having lps and softies at some point. My goal would be to have a good variety and avoiding multiples of a species if possible. the number of fish is not an answerable question as it would depend on behavior, ecological niche
Red Velvet Fairy Wrasse
Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse
Leopard Wrasse competes with dragonettes for copepods so that would preclude any dragonettes
Dilectis Dottyback dottybacks are not compatible with fairy wrasses or flasher wrasses
Bicolor Dottyback dottybacks are not compatible with fairy wrasses or flasher wrasses
Azure Damselfish aggressive
Catalina Goby requires cooler temperatures
Dracula Goby low success rate with this fish
Pacific Redstripe Hogfish
Blue Dot Jawfish requires cooler temperatures
Yellowhead Jawfish
White Tail Bristletooth Tang requires a larger tank
Spotted Mandarin Dragonet one dragonette would be marginal, two unlikely to succeed
Red Mandarin Dragonet
Thank you in advance!
Thank you for the info. I should have been more specific regarding the fact that I was not planning on putting that whole list in my tank. Those are the fish that I like and I was hoping to get some help finding a good combo within that list. Based on your feedback, I changed my list quite a bit. The new list is what I would actually like to put in the tank.
Red Velvet Fairy Wrasse
Hi Fin Red Banded Goby
Yellowtail Damselfish
Yellowhead Jawfish
False Percula
Royal Gramma Basslet
This list would work
I would love to throw in a dwarf angelfish if you think there's one that could work.
If you replace the damsel with a dwarf angel it would work
Thank you again for helping a newbie!
Okay, I finally have a true and final fish list I think.
Tank is a 90 gallon, FOWLR
Current stock:
2x Cleaner Shrimp
Clean-up crew consisting primarily of various snail species
Pair of tank-bred Ocellaris Clownfish
Diamond Watchman Goby
Blue Neon Cleaner Goby short lived
Male Tricolor Wrasse (aka: Red Headed Solon Wrasse)
Intended future purchases:
One-Spot Foxface (Live Aquaria lists this species as being okay for 70gallon tanks and up, the Foxface Lo is listed for 125gallon and up, the one-spot is supposedly 3-4 inches smaller than the lo with a max size of only 5-7" - I want to make sure that this info is correct before I purchase this fish as I don't want him to be in too small of a tank) should be fine
Coral Beauty
Dwarf Flame Angel (Coral Beauty and Flame Angel will be purchased, QT'd and introduced into the DT at the same time)
given that you will have three grazers, be sure to supplement with nori daily
Also considering a female Tricolor Wrasse to go with the current male since their colors are so different the female is more aggressive and is not easy to find given the coloration is relatively muted
Thanks again!
