Steve,

you just had a comment about starfish not lasting in a tank that size, could you elaborate?

Thanks

They are difficult because feeding them seems to require a large tank. There is a thread which is rather old that indicates that one can maintain them with sufficient asterina starfish for food. That is anecdotal evidence that I cannot substantiate. I have them in both of my tanks but the tanks are very mature and very large reef tanks. Most tanks outside of mine seem to have difficult maintaining them long term. Short term does not seem to be an issue.

3 x Fusilier Damselfish rarely available, and get to be about a foot in length. Will look strange in your type of tank

Thanks for the quick response! One question though: there isn't a ton of fusilier damsel info online, but the only info (other than what my LFS has told me) indicates a maximum length of about 4".

Do you have any other info sources, or is this personal experience? If I am going to update my LFS owners, I'd love to have something to point to :D

Thanks again for the feedback!

Thank you; no wrasses for me then. No idea why the firefish are intimidated; I wonder if the RG scared them.

In either case, thanks so much.

First off, a big thanks to those dedicated community members that keep this amazing thread going!

Secondly, here is my planned stock list and tank specs:

Tank: 36 x 30 x 27 high, 125'ish gallon - currently 11 weeks old, nitrogen cycle is concluded
Filtration: SRO SSS 2000 skimmer, live rock, carbon and GFO reactors, 40ish gallon sump with cheato in the 'fuge
Lighting: 2 x Radion Gen. 2
Water movement: 2 x MP40w, Eheim 1262 return

Planned inhabitants, in planned order of addition:

2 x Pink Skunk Clownfish
2 x Kaudern's Cardinalfish
3 x Fusilier Damselfish
1 x Yasha Goby + Red Banded Pistol Shrimp
1 x small Kole Tang (who will be monitored and perhaps transferred if he outgrows my tank)
1 x Midas Blenny
1 x Green Mandarin (many months down the road, as 'pod population matures)

I'm planning on adding the fish groups at 2 week to 1 month intervals, and including a Purple Long Tentacled anemone for the clowns after adding the cardinals and making sure I don't get any new microcycles / ammonia bursts.

After everyone but the mandarin is added, I'll slowly start introducing various corals. I'm also going to hold off on coral until my algae cycle has run its course.

Clean up crew of snails and starfish will be added, also based on my algae cycle.

Thanks!

correction on the size of the damsels: they should reach 4 inches when mature

Current tank:
Standard 90 gallon mixed reef, current livestock: 1 orange & 1 black Ocellaris clownfish( in tank about 3+ months), banded coral shrimp and clean up crew

This might be a dumb question but, Can you please give thoughts on adding a cleaner shrimp ,flame angel, a lemon peel mimic tang and yellow eyed kole tang to current stock list?

Thanks again,

Thanks again,

I would not try two tangs in this sized tank. Short term may work. Flame angel is not reef safe.

Can I keep a powder blue tang and a powder brown in the same tank ? If I do buy them as juveniles and add them at the same time ? It will be a 150 gallon btw.

Perhaps. Short term, that would work. Longer term, it is less certain. Also depends on other stocking.

Hmm, yes that brings me to the next question. How can you reduce aggression. I have a purple tang that destroys every new addition in the tank. I tried pretty much everything... I have a 150 with just 2 fish.. :( the tank looks very empty.

established zebrasoma tangs are super aggressive. They should always be the last fish added.

I've moved around all the landscaping.. didn't help. My last try would be to put that purple tang in maybe one of those 35 gallon bin for a week while the new fish are acclimating. Will this be a good idea ?

That is really beyond the scope of this thread which is marine fish compatibility. Try a separate thread of your own in Reef Fish. This thread is a stocking plan analysis thread to avoid these type of problem.

75 gallon aquarium. Currently has 40 lbs live rock. 20 gallon sump. No skimmer (may get one soon).
Fire fish goby
Yellow tang
Diamond watchman goby
Green chromis
Clownfish x2
Wrasse, anthias, another fire fish, any recommendations?
Lawnmower blenny
Pajama Cardinals x2
Flame angel or coral beauty
Peppermint shrimp
Skunk cleaner shrimp
10 hermits
10 snails
Frogspawn, polyps, etc
anemone

I have a 65 gallon display tank with around 70lbs of live rock.

30 gallon capacity sump with about 20 gallons of actual water. 6 inch deep sand bed in second chamber with around 5 lbs of live rock rubble plus cheato.

CUC consists of 6 blue leg hermits, one nassarius snail, 3 or 4 turbo snails, 3 mexican turbos, a few astreas.

My current coral list contains zoanthids/palythoas, hammer corals, goniaporas, mushrooms, ricordias, green star polyps, pulsing xenias, favia, acan lord, and a pipe organ coral

Current fish are percula clown, one ocellaris clown, one firefish, one midas blenny, one lawnmower blenny, and a Lubbock's fairy wrasse.

Am I at my bioload or is it possible to add any more fish. I really am open to suggestions as to what fish to add if anything. I know that I dont have the space for a tang, do not want damsels or chromis, and think I should stay away from angels because of the corals. I am also assuming that a mandarin is out of the question due to pod production not being enough to sustain it in this size of a set up. Any recomendations?

Also I know this thread is more for fish, but what about adding a cleaner shrimp? I am considering adding a clam down the road as well. Thanks

Fire fish goby
Yellow tang marginal in this sized tank; must be last fish added
Diamond watchman goby
Green chromis
Clownfish x2 depends on species
Wrasse, anthias, another fire fish, any recommendations?
Lawnmower blenny
Pajama Cardinals x2
Flame angel or coral beauty not reef safe
Peppermint shrimp
Skunk cleaner shrimp
10 hermits hermits kill snails; pick one or the other
10 snails
Frogspawn, polyps, etc
anemone

except as noted, should be fine

bioload is fine; behavior as well as bioload will determine what can be added

Any recomendations? you are correct about what you should avoid; however, I would prefer that you research and then come back with a planned stocking list for analysis. Be sure to remind me of tank size and total stocking plan

A local place has captive raised orchid dottybacks (Pseudochromis fridmani). Will this fish likely harrass my firefish as they have similair body shapes? Thanks again.
