actually this thread is answered only by reef central staff; for general comments post in the reef fish forum.

Its a 180 gallon tank (total water volume 230). Plan to add the grazers once the tank is really mature.

1 Blue Chromis chromis have been coming in frequently with uronema marinum so I am leery of advocating chromis
1 green Chromis
1 Banggai Cardinal tank raised only
1 Midas Blenny
1 Yellow watchman goby with shrimp
1 Flame hawk
1 one spot foxface

2 Occy clowns (paired)
2 Yellow headed jawfish
2 Royal grammas

1 Blue Tang (needs a bigger tank for long term)
1 Yellow Tang must be last fish added
1 Powder Brown Tang I do not think three tangs, one of which is P. heptus are desirable in a six foot tank

1 Flame Angel
1 Coral beauty Angel

3-5 Lyretail Anthias

Any other fish species that could be added given the bioload etc?

Adding to an existing 190

I currently have a purple tang (a rescue recovering quite well from hlle), a naked ocellaris clownfish, a red firefish and a royal gramma. They have been in this 190 for roughly four months.

I'm wanting to add

5 small female lyretail anthias

1 matted filefish for aiptasia control (yes I know he could wreck some of my lps but I think I'm willing to chance it since aiptasia control is a full time job and I've read they are fairly easy to catch)

1 yellow prawn goby

1 barnacle blenny

I feel like this would be a nice addition without increasing the bio load too much. As it is currently, just one pemysis cube will feed my fish about three times in a day.
Currently my phosphates are at 0.00-0.07 and nitrates near 1.0.

Very established 65 QT tank at 1.020 sg with 1/4" screen tops on qt and dt.
No jumping allowed.

Any input is much appreciated.

I would get three. As for rinsing, being paranoid, I would rinse with RO water and let soak for 5 minutes or so, then let dry.

Still considering inhabitants of the 225 gallon mixed reef that I'm planning.

72" x 27" x 27".

I realize that this is a BIG list with a lot of bioload, but I'm planning on excellent filtration and frequent water changes.

Here goes:

Yellow tang
Kole tang
Hippo tang
Purple tang
(Please note that all tangs would go in at the same time, as the very last additions to the tank).

A pair of percula clownfish
Flame angel
Blue throat trigger
Exquisite wrasse
Carpenters flasher wrasse

Longfin fairy wrasse
Whip fin fairy wrasse
A trio of spotted cardinalfish

Orchid dottyback - tank bred a problem with fairy or flasher wrasses

Any that you would absolutely avoid? Any advice would be much appreciated. I would not put this many fish in this sized tank; it is not a bioload issue so much as it being a bit "busy"

tank 50 gallon 36" long, sump with skimmer, set up 3 years, ample liverock, minimal coral,

existing fish: flame hawk, 6line wrasse, ocellaris clown, banggaii cardinal, royal gramma.

wanting to add: neon goby (I know they won't pick off parasites), bicolor angel, what do you think?

I have a question nobody seems to be able to answer: do dwarf angels need any kind of sea sponge in their diet? I see commercially prepared foods with sponge labeled for angels, will they even eat it?

He is white with stripes.

Was thinking of a blue tang as the final piece.

But would consider input on the fish selection and what is and isn't going to become one after a while.

Also which is more beneficial. Crabs or snails?

Dwarf angels do not require sponge in their diet; they may eat angel formula or similar but it is not necessary. They do require "greens" either from the tank or supplied via nori

Size: 55 gallons w/ 10 gallon sump
Filtration: 40 to 50 pounds of Live Rock + Good skimmer
Extra info:
  • Bare bottom and don't plan on having sand.
  • No lid and don't plan on having one.
  • The tank is ~2 years old but it had a MASSIVE overhaul 2 months ago where I removed all the sand and replaced all the rock so all my copepods and amphipods are gone. I will be buying a hang on back refugium and will be seeding it in about a month.


Fish:
  • 1 Ocellaris Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris)
  • 1 Green Mandarin (Synchiropus splendidus)
  • 1 Kaudern's Cardinal - Tank-Bred (Pterapogon kauderni)
  • 1 Midas Blenny (Ecsenius midas)

MAYBE

  • 1 McCosker's Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus mccoskeri)

I'm open to any suggestions.
 

Would adding a dragonet to the tank in the future be a problem?

Also will the Chizle tooth wrasse eat most of the crabs once it becomes an adult??

yes, if it becomes an adult. Remember, these are difficult fish to maintain
