Wow well I'll catch the sahol later before he is the killer and just add anthias and let the chromis take care of their selves. Thanks for the advise and sucks such a pretty fish can't be in a reef tank. I feel sorry for the guy that has a 1400 g on reef central with 2 sahols in his tank,he has 2 of everything fish wise . Have a great New Years.

I had a friend with one in a 1000 gallon tank it was doing ok, but it was a very long tank with no other tangs. You have a couple years before the Sohal is a problem. Thanks, and same to you.
 
200+gal,live rock,sump45gal.150x2w/led lighting 2 wavemakers MP40w...10000ltr return pump ...feed fish 2 times a day...dry pellets in the morning and afternoon snack of shellfish ...1 pippie or 1 live blood cockle...

3 pajama cardinals

now want to add 2 skunk cleaner shrimp
another question ....would a algae scrubber be beneficial to my system???

Since this thread is only about marine fish compatibility, I do not answer questions about equipment. There are several threads about algae scrubbers on RC, however. My only concern with the three tangs in QT is that naso tangs really do better in longer tanks. Also, adding three algae grazers, even in this sized tank, is not a good idea, especially since you have three dwarf angels that also consume algae.

what about adding the 2 skunk cleaner shrimp is that ok to add 2
also the algae eaters are well catered for with lots of algae from refugium and also fresh green vegetables like spinach and chinese bok choy etc
they consume 1 leaf per 2 days of green veggies ....have lots of rive rock too
all fat and healthy :clown:

A pearl butterfly is unlikely to leave your shrimp intact. Sounds like you have the algae issue under control.

now you have mentioned about the pearl butterfly and the cleaner shrimp
yep have noticed that the butterfly seems to lie on its side waiting for the shrimp to do something...vibrating its tail
originally the butterfly had flukes I think,but was treated it in observation tank with prazipro so hopefully it is trying to get something else done by the shrimp
seems to not be aggressive towards shrimp...
just looking now as I write this that the butterfly just glides past shrimp and straight past...maybe too well fed :lmao:
anyhow thanks for the info and merry xmas and all the best for the NewYear
 

We don't plan on cycling with fish btw. I'm totally against it. FW I use ammonia and time, SW I plan on doing the same thing minus the ammonia lol. I just like damsels, and their hardyness. Figured they would be the best first addition, but maybe I'll rethink having them at all. So what about this fish list:

-Red firefish
-pair of Ocellaris Clowns
-Goby w/ matching snapping shrimp
-Scissortail dartfish
-Green Mandarinfish
-Yellow Tang

(added roughly in that order).

If my reading was done properly none of these fish should be too terribly competitive with a Mandarin correct? I've been reading through the mandarin primer.

If the butterfly is doing that, you will be fine. That position is one that fish assume when they are asking to be cleaned and giving permission.

That fish list is fine, and none are direct competitors to a mandarin. Be sure your tank is mature when adding the mandarin (9 months) and be sure the yellow tang is the last fish (excluding the mandarin)
 
I have a 55gal DT, 40 x 16 x 20high. Ocellaris Clownfish and about a 5" yellow tang. Tank is about 3 years old. Has live rock. Those 2 have been tankmates for the majority of that time.

I'm reading on your posts that the Tang may be aggressive to new fish. I know you don't make recommendations, but do you have any suggestions on some fish I can look up and study to see what I can do? Wrasse, gobies, blennies for example?

The yellow tang needs a much larger tank for long term success. The tang may allow a small non algae eating fish.

Please comment not only on the fish, but on the order in which I'll add them to the tank. In general, I'm trying to add the most aggressive fish at the end, but I'm not sure if my order is correct.

I am in the process of upgrading from my little 29 gallon BioCube reef to a 110 DSA tank. I am beginning to think ahead for the fish stock and want a nice, larger tang that is reef safe (not with caution as most on live aquaria are) to be my "show" fish. I wanted one with a ton of color, preferably bright yellow and blue. The PBT fits my image perfectly but I see very conflicting views and opinions on their tank size requirements, from a minimum of 55 gallons (which I know is way inaccurate) to people saying 250 is the min, with everything between. I know most don't grow much larger than 9 inches and my tank is 5 feet long so I personally think he would be okay, but wanted other's opinions on this (mostly people who have owned a Powder Blue Tang). He would be the only fish longer than 4-5 inches in the tank. If anyone could suggest another breed that would fit my requirements, I am all ears! (Or eyes really...lol)
