New Guy with a New Tank

New Guy with a New Tank

Hi, I have very little experience and quite frankly don't know very much other than the research Ive been performing online the past few weeks. I am starting a FOWLR tank and have just set up the tank and am cycling the water. While that is going on I began to create a fish list. Any advice would be considered and appreciated. The list is as follows, with both my interest in the fish and back up options.

The Star:
-Yellow Long nose Butterfly-I know its a little large but will most likely be my only fish bigger than a few inches, and i have already considered its eating habits ect. that being said and additional first hand info on them would be great.
-had originally thought of fox face but they are similar in color and fox face has the dorsal spines and needs larger room, also thought copper band but heard they are more difficult to get eating and doesn't have fox face color pattern.

2nd String:
-I was thinking one of the smaller tangs, maybe a yellow, bristle tooth or atl blue (really like powder brown but i hear they need ample space and are aggressive) but they are also grow large.
-And/Or maybe a small puffer like a leopard toby or a saddle valentini. I hear puffers produce a large bioload and require treatment for there teeth. Also don't want to harass small fish.

Small but bold:
-I was also considering replacing the tang with dwarf angels maybe a lemon peel and a flame, also like multicolor angel and coral beauty(but heard they are aggressive and harder to take care of). How well would these get along or would it be an issue. I see some need to be single but others are okay if introduced together.
- Also possibly one or 2 pearl eye or galaxy clarkii clowns.
-And the long nose hawkfish i love the shape of this little guy and the peppermint pattern, may think of changing for a white band possum wrasse if there was issue with him.
-I also really like harlequin bass but not sure if they would do well together being similar shape and style.
-Yellow head jawfish-not sure of compatibly or if i have enough substrate

Cleaning
-Last I would like advice on the clean up crew with these selections, I like shrimp but I read it would be an problem with some of the fish I was looking towards. Another question is are the clean up crew different for FOWLR than traditional reed.

Obviously I wouldn't have all these fish, However I wanted to offer options of what I like and get y'all opinion on whats practical to try to create a balance. Also keeping in mind there won't be corals unless it is on the live rock will that be a factor for these choice fish. Any help would be fantastic, as I don't have much experience and am on my own with this...let the issues begin

I would need to know tank size in order to analyze stocking plan appropriately

[welcome]

it is a 55gal right now it only has water (RO) with instant ocean salt and live sand, with a power head and mechanical filter and ill be buying the Reef Octopus Classic 100 HOB Protein Skimmer after i get some rock and preparing for fish

Needs a larger tank

Either would need a larger tank

How well would these get along or would it be an issue. I see some need to be single but others are okay if introduced together. one would work although marginally so as they are grazers and would do best in a larger tank
- Also possibly one or 2 pearl eye or galaxy clarkii clowns. clarkii are aggressive and would probably try to control the entire tank
-And the long nose hawkfish would work but is not shrimp safe i love the shape of this little guy and the peppermint pattern, may think of changing for a white band possum wrasse if there was issue with him. would work fine; excellent fish
-I also really like harlequin bass but not sure if they would do well together being similar shape and style. aggressive; not recommended
-Yellow head jawfish-not sure of compatibly or if i have enough substrate excellent fish; four inch substrate including sand and rock rubble

I have a 28 gallon tank with live rock - current inhabitants are a captive bred striped blenny and captive bred yellow watchman goby. A few soft corals on the live rock - nothing major.

Looking to add one more fish - candidates are a pajama cardinal from my main tank (part of a trio and he seems to get picked on a bit) or a captive bred whitespotted pygmy filefish (keen on that one but it is a relatively new fish to the hobby from what I've been able to research)

Space enough to add one of those?

Thanks,

J.

Either or both would work

I am in the process of purchasing the last few pieces for my tank and I wanted to also get started on working out a stock list for my tank.

The tank is a 75g with a 20g sump, 70lbs live rock and a skimmer with a 2.5" sand bed.

Obviously what I would like to put in the tank and what can go in there safely is two diff things. My list below is what I would like to have over the long term and def not right away.

Yellow Tang or Kole Tang
2 x clowns (Black Ice / Snowflake clown)
Firefish Goby
Purple Firefish Goby
Orchid Dottyback - P. Fridmani
Blue Spotted Jawfish
Yellow watchman
Sixline Wrasse or MCCOSKER'S FLASHER WRASSE
Flame Angel
Pygmy Angelfish
3 x Royal Gramma

Possible List
2 x cardinalfish or Pajamas
Group of Azure Damselfish

2 x Pistol Shrimp
Blue Maxima Clam
Bubble tip anemone or alternate for clowns

Live Aquaria Cleaner package
Package Contains
15 Scarlet Reef Hermit Crabs
15 Astraea Turbo Snails
30 Dwarf Blue Leg Hermit Crabs
1 Sally Lightfoot Crab or Fighting Conch
1 Arrow Crab
2 Emerald Crab
3 Peppermint Shrimp
1 Coral Banded Shrimp
10 Nassarius Snails

Eventually - after a year of pod seeding to establish a good colony
2 x Mandarin Dragonets's m/f

Yellow Tang or Kole Tang kole tang is marginally ok; yellow tang is not
2 x clowns (Black Ice / Snowflake clown)
Firefish Goby two firefish sometimes works, sometimes not. Usually not.
Purple Firefish Goby
Orchid Dottyback - P. Fridmani
Blue Spotted Jawfish needs cooler temperature, gentle tank mates and a specific substrate depth and makeup greater than yours
Yellow watchman
Sixline Wrasse or MCCOSKER'S FLASHER WRASSE McCoskers is fine, sixline not
Flame Angel I would suggest the two dwarf angels or a kole tang but not both
Pygmy Angelfish
3 x Royal Gramma tank may not be long enough for more than one

Possible List
2 x cardinalfish or Pajamas
Group of Azure Damselfish needs larger tank and would not do well with the dwarf angels

2 x Pistol Shrimp
Blue Maxima Clam
Bubble tip anemone or alternate for clowns clowns of this species may or may not associate with a bubble tip

Live Aquaria Cleaner package I suggest snails or crabs but not both
Package Contains
15 Scarlet Reef Hermit Crabs
15 Astraea Turbo Snails
30 Dwarf Blue Leg Hermit Crabs
1 Sally Lightfoot Crab or Fighting Conch conch is fine, the crab once mature can take fish
1 Arrow Crab can take fish
2 Emerald Crab can take fish once large
3 Peppermint Shrimp
1 Coral Banded Shrimp can take fish once large
10 Nassarius Snails

Eventually - after a year of pod seeding to establish a good colony
2 x Mandarin Dragonets's m/f one would work, two will not

Fish stock list approval

My 150 gallon aquarium will not work, so I'm going to do my 75 gallon aquarium instead now.

Pair of snowflake clowns
Flame angel
Midas blenny
Royal gramma
Electric indigo dottyback

Are all of these compatible ? And which order should I add these into the aquarium thanks

Feedback on CUC numbers

Feedback on CUC numbers

I just received my first CUC and believe I might have too many hermit crabs? Any thoughts/feedback appreciated.

Tank - 65G
50lbs live rock
45lbs live sand
Sump - 30G Emerald Trigger Sump

Livestock:
12 Scarlet Red Hermit Crabs
7 Astraea Turbo Snail
10 Banded Trochus Snails
2 Scarlet Skunk Shrimp

Also, any recommendations on diet supplements until my tank is established would be appreciated. I plan on dried mysis shrimp for the hermit crabs and algae wafers and/or nori?

I do not mix hermits and snails as hermits kill snails. I prefer a variety of snails.

NLS pellets would work

Would an indigo hamlet be a better choice than dottyback?

No. See this.

First tank, any help appreciated :)

Biocube 14g, upgraded with protein skimmer, media basket (Chemipure, Purigen, filter floss), heater, 100gph hydor powerhead, with live rock.

Plan on a number of corals (such as mushroom and colony polyps.)

Fish:
Pair of Ocellaris Clownfish
One Exquisite or Purple Firefish
One Clown Goby

Inverts:
Pair of Fire Shrimp
Astrea Snails
Feather Duster
Maxima Clam

Would love to realistically place all this in my tank

Can I replace the dottyback with a common cleaner wrasse? Or suggest a blue or green fish that would be compatible and do well in this list

Fish: This sized tank cannot realistically handle a pair of clownfish; if you do so anyway, not other fish should be maintained
Pair of Ocellaris Clownfish
One Exquisite or Purple Firefish without clownfish, a firefish and clown goby would be fine
One Clown Goby

Inverts: beyond the scope of this thread

Astrea Snails
Feather Duster
Maxima Clam

a cleaner wrasse would not work for a variety of reasons; as those who follow this thread know, I do not provide recommendations for a variety of reasons. Also, please do not remove my colorations
