i have a 55 with a magnum filter, hang on back protien skimmer, live sand, alot of live rock alot of soft carols and some fish that are leaving today if the store is open and yes i listened to the store and bought what they told me:fun5: here is a pic of what i have , i would be truely greatful on advice on fish for the tank,,,thanks so much ken

This thread is about marine fish compatibility. It is not really feasible for me to derive your fish list from pictures. But, what easily I see, is a tang and teen aged imperator angel, neither of which should be in a 55 gallon tank. If your LFS advised these fish, my recommendation would be to change LFS.

The tank is a 90G (4x18x18) with sump/fuge. Keeping mainly LPS and softies. I love tusks but I know a 4ft is to small :(

Here's what I was thinking
-1 ocellaris clowns
-1 yellow watchman, hopefully pair with pistol
-1* cleaner shrimp (should i worry about the pistol with this guy?)
-1 citron goby
-1 Anthias either bimaculatus anthias or barletts (never kept anthias before, I understand they can be difficult to keep...?)
-1 Flame Angel (introduced last)
-1 red scooter dragonet or spotted dragonet(assuming pod populations are satisfactory)

Let me know your opinion, TIA

Here's what I was thinking
-1 ocellaris clowns
-1 yellow watchman, hopefully pair with pistol do not worry, they always find each other
-1* cleaner shrimp (should i worry about the pistol with this guy?) no problem at all
-1 citron goby
-1 Anthias either bimaculatus anthias or barletts (never kept anthias before, I understand they can be difficult to keep...?)

the only issue is feeding, they need to be fed every day for sure, twice a day preferred

-1 Flame Angel (introduced last) not reef safe, especially with meaty LPS

-1 red scooter dragonet or spotted dragonet(assuming pod populations are satisfactory)

Let me know your opinion, TIA

Clams?!?!

Clams?!?!

I was thinking about adding 1 or 2 Tridacna Clams to my tank after about six months. Probably something thats a little more resilient and enjoys a bit more water flow. Would adding a Derasa or Maxima be a bad decision this early in the game?

Honestly, the look of some of the clams rivals most of the corals I've been looking at.

Thanks,

- Chad

This thread is about marine fish compatibility. Best answers will be obtained in the clam forum which can be found here.

Please be nice - I'm a newbie to a peaceful tank. :)

Setting up a 150 gallon with sump. Also lots of live rock in the DT. Going to start out FOWLR, but once fish are all settled in and happy, will branch out to trying to do a true reef. For now, will only grow algae. :)

Currently have 2 oscellaris and one yellow watchman goby that will be transferred over from my 56 gallon. The goby is my favorite fish, and he MUST not be pestered in my new tank. He's had a rough go of it. Here's my wish list:

Purple Firefish x 2
Two Oscellaris
Yellow Watchman Goby
Yellow Foxface
Flame Angel
Midas Blenny??
Mystery Wrasse?
Resplendent anthias x3?
Fairy Wrasse (not sure which one)
Chevron Tang
Yellow Tang
Mandarin in about a year - if pods are okay

Blue and Pink Sea Star (Astropecten sp)

Snails and a fighting conch
Nudibranch
Cleaner shrimp

What think ye? And thanks SO much for this thread and all of your advice!!

Yellow Watchman Goby
Yellow Foxface
Flame Angel not reef safe
Midas Blenny??
Mystery Wrasse? can be ornery towards peaceful fish
Resplendent anthias x3?
Fairy Wrasse (not sure which one)
Chevron Tang
Yellow Tang should be last as they are very territorial
Mandarin in about a year - if pods are okay

Blue and Pink Sea Star (Astropecten sp)

Snails and a fighting conch
Nudibranch
Cleaner shrimp

Thanks so much for the advice!! I meant to take the Flame Angel off that list. And now the Mystery Wrasse is off too. With those two off the list, how does my bioload look? About full, or room for a few more?

bioload is fine but no more large grazers.

Revised List

Revised List

So with your suggestions in mind and the fact that someone showed me a McCosker's Flasher Wrasse...here's my revised list

180G Standard 6'x2'x2' with 60g sump / 20g fuge
My wishlist is: (will be added in approximate order; would you make any changes to the order?)

1 x Helfrichi Firefish (Nemateleotis Helfrichi)
5 x McCosker's Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus Mccoskeri) - Could I do 7?
<strike>5 x Blue Reef Chromis (Chromis Cyaneus)</strike>
1 x Royal Gramma (Gramma Loreto)
1 x Midas Blenny (Ecsenius Midas)
<strike>1 x Lawnmower Blenny (Salarias Fasciatus)</strike>
2 x Fancy Clownfish (unsure of species at the moment)
1 x Sunburst Anthias (Serranocirrhitus Latus)
<strike>1 x Mystery Wrasse (Pseudocheilinus Ocellatus)</strike>
1 x Flame Angel (Centropyge Loriculus)
1 x Yellow Eye Kole Tang (Ctenochaetus Strigosus)
1 x Blue Carribean Tang (Acanthuras Coeruleus)
1 x Sailfin Tang (Zebrasoma Desjardini) - This guy I will get as small as possible. When he gets too big, I know of someone that will take him with a 300g tank.
1 x Green Mandarin (Synchiropus Splendidas) - Will still be added about 10 to 12 months after cycle (maybe a pair...)

Thanks so much. Your time is much appreciated. =)

Hi Snorvich/RC Staff,

I'd like advice on my fish choices for my tank.

Tank Specs:
55 gallon + 20 gallon Sump
2x mp10 powerheads
Reef Octopus NWB110 protein skimmer
70 lbs Live Rock
Aragonite oolitic sand, 1 1/2 in deep
Will have zoas, softies, LPS corals
Let me know if you need more specs

Fish Choices:
1x Flame Angel (really love the look, afraid of coral eating... still on the fence)
2x True Percula clownfish (buy at same time, 1 small 1 large, or buy months apart?)
1x Yellowhead Jawfish
1x Male, 3x Female Solor/Red Head Fairy Wrasse (buy and QT together, or separate?)
1x Purple firefish

Any particular order to add these in?

Also thinking of Dispar Anthias, but am still on the fence.

Let me know if I'm missing something - aggression/not reef safe/etc.

Thanks again for helping me out

-Tim

1 x Sunburst Anthias (Serranocirrhitus Latus)

Will have zoas, softies, LPS corals

Fish Choices:
1x Flame Angel (really love the look, afraid of coral eating... still on the fence) dwarf angels are not reef safe
2x True Percula clownfish (buy at same time, 1 small 1 large, or buy months apart?) buy two very small at the same time, they will work it out
1x Yellowhead Jawfish
1x Male, 3x Female Solor/Red Head Fairy Wrasse (buy and QT together, or separate?) your tank is not large enough for four fairy wrasses
1x Purple firefish

Any particular order to add these in?

Also thinking of Dispar Anthias, but am still on the fence. anthias also really need a larger tank, preferably large enough for multiples. For one, 75 gallons, for a group, minimum of 125 gallons

Let me know if I'm missing something - aggression/not reef safe/etc.

Thanks again for helping me out

Howdy,

Would like feedback on the type of fish I would like ot add to my tank, really new to the hobby. Currently the tank is cycling.

Tank specs:
95g tank
29g sump with LR/Cheato/hermits/urchin
sump buddy 40 skimmer
2 hydor Koralias 1400 gph.
100 pounds of argonite sand/crush coral. 2inch sand bed.
100 pounds of rock and around 20-30 pounds of LR.

Would Like to have all type of coral at some point, also I currently have a hermit on the dt.

Fish Choices:

First buy: pair of false perc clowns and cleaner shrimp.
Then: - Blue and Yellow Tang.
- yellow or another type of goby.

Will be having a 10g QT tank and have the fish there for 2-3 weeks.

And that's all I can think of at the moment....

Thanks,
Patty

Thanks for the input Snorvich. Can you take a look at my revised list when you have a chance? Tank specs included again for your convenience.

1x Purple firefish

Also, above is the order I'd like to add them in. Does this seem OK?

-Thanks again Snorvich

Will be having a 10g QT tank and have the fish there for 2-3 weeks. while not the subject of this thread, you should read the quarantine sticky since 2-3 weeks is not sufficient

And that's all I can think of at the moment....

The list is fine, but add the firefish first.

Hi Patty,

Thanks for the input and quick response,

I am thinking in upgrade to a bigger tank after a year or so and buy the fish fairly small, so when they begin to be too big for my current tank I can upgrade.

What other fish should I consider? I thinking on adding a Purple firefish too. Or those would be more than enough?. Also is the sand sifter hermit that I currently have ok?.

Thanks,
Patty
