43L Reef Aquarium with Live Sand and Live Rock: Filter, T5 Lighting, Heater, Powerhead and maybe a Skimmer?

Corals: Hammers, Torch, Popyls, Frogspawn and Mushrooms

Invertebrates: (1) Skunk Cleaner Shrimp and (2-3) Snails

Fish: (2) Ocellaris Clownfish

Is this a good plan?

this thread is about marine fish compatibility. You have no issues with your current plan

I'm not new to the hobby, but I do like this post so I figured that I'd participate. I just broke down my 29 gallon, for a cross country move. Very soon I'll be setting up a 65 gallon acrylic 36" long aquarium. The aquascape with be a valley set up of LR, with perhaps a small bridge of GSP connecting the two sides near the back. Also, about a 3" sandbed of reef sand. I have a homemade Sump with a skimmer and a very LARGE refugium. I plan for the refugium to have some LR rubble, and chaeto. Along with Emerald Crabs to keep the Chaeto growth down once established. I'll also put some shaving brush plant in there to help promote pod growth. I will keep some maidens hair and Mermaids fan in the main display, in areas that I feel are in need of some "additional natural filtration". Now on to the livestock itself. For the most part I will be adding them in order of least aggressive to most.

I do not provide commentary on aggressive fish tanks. However, your lionfish will eat their other tank mates.

Fish (Not in this order);
Centerpiece - Radiata Lionfish
Fu Manchu Lionfish
One Sopt Foxface
Pair of Firefish
5 -6 Blue/ Green Chromis
Longnose Hawkfish
Horned Blenny
Catalina Blenny? (Wife wants one, I'm not sure if it will do well)
kCoral Beauty? (May decide on a different Anglefish)
Pair of Oscillares Clowns
Pair of Banggai Cardinals
Copperband Butterflyfish? (Not sure if I want him because I want Clams more)
Royal Starfish
Electric Scallop later on down the road
Cleaner Shrimp
Coral Banded Shrimp
a few Conches
a few Nassarius Snails (I've grown to hate Turbo "The Dozers" Snails)
I started off wanting a Snowflake Eel, but now I'm not sure that I want to take the chance of it killing off other creatures. But I would get it last and as a juvenile.

Coral and Anemone;
Maxima Clam
Derasa Clam
Squamosa Clam
Duncan
Xenia
Frogspawn
GSP
Various Zoas (depends on the color contrast needed at the time)
Various Feather Dusters
Red Sea Fan
Bluberry Sea Fan
Orange Ricordia Mushroom
Bubble Coral
Mini Maxi Carpet Anemone
Bulb Anemone

I do appreciate any feedback (unless it's just snide and rude), I'm really excited going forward. As I'm waiting to get in to a new place I'm spending pretty much all of my free time on forums and other websites doing research and adjusting my plan. I don't want to make as many mistakes as I did when I started this hobby.

Hi, I have a 30gal long tank that have been set up for over 2 yrs currently hosting one A.Oscillares and 1 YWG with CUC and candy canes, torch coral and some mashroom soft corals, can I also add in a tailspot blenny?

Sure. No problem.

Hi need your advice once again. In my 40g I only have the sixline and starry which are great right now. My 2 final fish choices are:
Flame angel
Orchid dotty back
Will these work? thanks

I have a 34G tank that has been running <2 months. I have 3 fish that are doing great. 2 B&W clowns, and a blue spotted jawfish (who is awesome). I want to eventually add corals in 3-4 more months. However, I would like to add another fish or two. Do you think this is reasonable?

Also, I have the following clean up crew:
10 blue legged hermit crabs
10 nassarius snails
2 fire shrimp
1 tuxedo sea urchin

Do I need more diversity with this clean up crew? Any recommendations?

45g, planning to do fowlr. thinking of adding all or mostly dwarf angels, will all of these get along together? and get along with a cuc of snails/shrimp if i decide to add them?

(in no particular order)
flame angel
bi-color angel
lemon peel angel
coral beauty angel
black nox angel

possibly also
flame back angel
pygmy (cherub) angel

thanks in advance

This thread is about marine fish compatibility so I do not analyze clean up crew unless it negatively impacts fish. Depends on what fish you are considering, whether it is reasonable.

One dwarf angel will do fine, two of them is marginal at best in this sized tank.

Thanks for the response. I was thinking about adding two of the following three options:

1. Mandarian goby
2. Purple firefish
3. Tanaka's pygmy wrasse

Do you have any experience with these? I definitely want to add the mandarian goby, but my tank is not mature enough to supply the necessary food for this fish. Is it necessary to have a fuge for copepod growth? Any other thoughts about these fish? Do you have any recommendations for additional fish for me to consider as tank additions? Thanks again for your time.

Options 2 and 3 are fine. A mandarin has requirements that your tank cannot satisfy.

I have a 30 gallon tank (20g DT + 10g sump)

my filtration is:
1. I have a algae turf scrubber (ATS)
2. DSB for about 6"
3. Liverocks
4. Filterfoam

and in my DT i have 1 occellaris 1 firefish gobby 1 Orange Butterflyfish (if it gets bigger, i will donate him to my friend) and 1 six-line wrasse.

Question:

Can i add another occelaris and 3 green chromis?
Or if not, may you please suggest some fish for me :)

AANDD is a six-line wrasse alright for a 20gal tank?

Thanks

A kleins butterfly needs a minimum of a 50 gallon tank. Fish size is not a determining factor for tank size.

A second A. occelaris is all you can add to your tank. The sixline wrasse will be a problem going forward.

no, it really needs a minimum of 30 gallons.

Thanks

[welcome]

I have a 125 gallon DT with a 55 gallon sump/fuge and I am running an ASM2 skimmer. My tank has a tight fitting top to prevent jumping. I also feed Nori every few days for the tangs and blenny.

My current stocking list is
Ocellaris Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris)
McCosker's Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus mccoskeri)
Starry Blenny (Salarias ramosus)
Powder Brown Tang (Acanthurus japonicus)
Yellow Tang - Hawaii (Zebrasoma flavescens)
Blue/Green Reef Chromis (Chromis viridis)
Dispar Anthias (Pseudanthias dispar)
Red Mandarin (Synchiropus cf. splendidus)
Firefish, Purple (Nemateleotris decora)

Am I at capacity now or do I have any room? I was looking to add one of the following fish (or more if there was room).

Pink Margin Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus rubrimarginatus)
Tanaka's Pygmy Wrasse (Wetmorella tanakai)
Filamented Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus filamentosus)

If you were in my shoes, what will you do :) will you remove that wrasse and butterfly and reply it with another fish? and what fishes would it be. thanks

one of these would be fine, I would opt for one of the the two at the top of the list as the last one might have negative interaction with your firefish

Steve,
Looking at an addition to the tank to help with algae control. Tank spec: standard 120, HSA-1000 skimmer (rated to 750, but let's say 400 under load), 100g rubbermaid sump (~60g), 29g refug w/ cheato, carbon/gfo, 2 x vortech 40s, and reeflo pump.
Current Load:
2 x blue throat trigger (pair)
2 x black and white chromis (pair)
2 x RBTA and the most docile Gold Stripe Maroon ever (5 years old and only cares about the RBTA, doesn't even bite me when I feed the nems).
Arc eye hawk

Looking at a fox face. Also thinking about a watchman goby, as nothing chills at the bottom of the tank.

If you were in my shoes, what will you do :) will you remove that wrasse and butterfly and reply it with another fish? and what fishes would it be. thanks

I never keep fishes that I cannot provide a permanent home for. So, yes, I would remove it and replace it with a more suitable fish. I do not provide recommendations for a variety of reasons, but I would be more than happy to analyze a stocking list.
