Hello! I have a 28g nano cube (30 lbs live rock, 1.5" live sand) that I am ready to stock. My LFS told me I could keep the following in the tank, but I wanted to get this checked here first:

True Percula Clown yes
Bengai Cardinal tank bred, yes
Bicolor Dottyback no, too aggressive
Mandarin Goby no, will starve to death without exceptional (!) effort

Thanks!

That is correct. However, the vast majority of aquarists do not quarantine (sadly) and do not know how to properly treat. Also, if you read back on what I said, I said Uronema like symptoms. It is not clear if it is actually Uronema. That, of course is beyond the scope of this thread.

I do not know if Black Axil's have been coming in with health issues, but other types of chromis have been.
Gotcha. I'll do a little more research... I do quarantine, but I only have one QT, so I've got plenty of time on my hands.

Many thanks!

I was looking for thoughts on a Yellow Canary Wrasse. I was wondering if they will pick at hermits and shrimps and how their behavior towards other fish are. They kinda remind me of a Sixline wrasse, which can be real buggers. My current fish are:
1 Pajama Cardinal
1 Benggai Cardinal
1 Red Firefish
1 Tomini Tang
2 Percula's
1 Royal Gramma

All have been together for the last 3yrs. in a 90g mixed reef.

They are peaceful (Halichoeres chrysus) and will eat fireworms and pyramidellid snails, protecting corals and clams. People often get them for the coloration and because they eat undesirable predators. However, it may eat feather dusters, wild shrimp, tubeworms, and flatworms. Inverts are not safe although corals are.

I have a 210 gallon tank (6 feet long) with the following:
1 powder blue tang
1 yellow tang
1 tomini tang
1 coral beauty angel
1 flame angel
1 diamond goby
1 orangemarked goby
1 bicolor dottyback
2 ocellaris (black and white)
2 ocellaris (orange)
2 firefish

Also have 4 shrimp, hermits, snails, etc. So, the question, am I done with fish? Not looking to get anything at this time, just trying to figure it out as I look at possible future plans. Thanks.

I have a 210 gallon tank (6 feet long) with the following:
1 powder blue tang
1 yellow tang once established, will make it very difficult to add fish
1 tomini tang
1 coral beauty angel
1 flame angel
1 diamond goby
1 orangemarked goby two of these gobies will probably not be long term stable
1 bicolor dottyback very aggressive, will be a problem long term
2 ocellaris (black and white) two pairs of clownfish, once sexually mature will not work
2 ocellaris (orange)
2 firefish only stable long term if they are a bonded pair

Also have 4 shrimp, hermits, snails, etc. So, the question, am I done with fish?

as mentioned, long term, there may be some stability issues

Hello and thanks for all the great advice.

I have a 90 mixed reef tank that is young. Minimalist rockscape, lots of open space.

Current corals: duncan, birdsnest
Plan on more sps and others

Current fish:

2 clowns (osc)
1 diamond goby

Considering adding:

1 yellow tang ( this is a replacement due to an accident)

Cleaner shrimp

Blue/green reef chromis (possibly 2 or 3) ?

A wrasse: filamented flasher OR longfin fairy

Another goby: hi fin

Possibly a manderin

Will not be adding these all at once.

Appreciate any compatibility or other input!

This will be limiting selection going forward since zebrasoma tangs are very territorial once established; the Ctenochaetus group is better tempered

Cleaner shrimp

Blue/green reef chromis (possibly 2 or 3) ? They have been coming in less than healthy, but even healthy ones will winnow down until there is one or a most two remaining

A wrasse: filamented flasher OR longfin fairy flasher wrasses are not aggressive whereas the longfin fairy wrasse is; both require tanks that are tightly covered

Another goby: hi fin two gobies long term are not stable

Possibly a manderin should be fine once the tank is mature

Will not be adding these all at once.

Appreciate any compatibility or other input!

Will a Kole Yellow Eye Tang (instead of the Yellow) be ok with One Spot Fox Face introduced at the same time?

I have a 125 gallon tank with a 55g sump. Plan on having a reef tank but not overly populated with coral. I am more interested in fish! Here is a list of what I think might work in the tank. They are listed in about the order I think they should be introduced in. I will have a CUC in before any fish go into which will consist of hermits and snails. I will have some shrimp in the tank once I figure out which ones I want.

1) 2 Ocellaris Clowns - tank bred
2) Lawnmower Blenny
3) Heniochus Black & White Butterfly
4) Threadfin Butterfly - these 2 will be added at the same time
5) Bio-Color angel
6) Flame Angel
7) Powder Blue Tang
8) Yellow tang - will be added in with the powder blue.

You have several fish that are not coral safe. Your order is pretty good but I would add the last four after the tank matures a bit and be sure to supplement feeding with Nori.

Updated stock list...getting closer!!!

Updated stock list...getting closer!!!

So, here's what I posted about a year ago. Now, things are coming together and I'm getting close (well, closer...) to getting everything up and running.

Display Tank: 180 gal, 72"x25"x25"
Rock: 240 lbs dry rock on order from Marco & BRS - will supplement with additional 40-50 lbs of "premium" live rock from LFS
Substrate: 180-ish lbs of crushed aragonite - medium grit, will be seeded with small amount of live sand from LFS
Sump: Yes
Fuge w/LR rubble and macro algae: Yes
Skimmer: Yes
CUC: All snails/fighting conchs/etc. No crabs. No shrimp.
Corals: Softies, zoas, leathers, etc. - maybe an LPS or two.

So...fish wish list, in no particular order:

1 ea Blue Eye Tang (Ctenochaetus binotatus)
3 ea Pyramid Butterflyfish (Hemitaurichthys polylepis) (would add at same time)
2 ea Flame Angelfish (Centropyge loricula ) (would add at same time...and understand them not being truly "reef safe", but am willing to take the risk, particularly with planned "inexpensive" corals)
1 ea Flame Hawkfish (Neocirrhitus armatus)
2 ea Ocellaris Clowns (Amphiprion ocellaris) (tank bred, would add at same time)
1 ea Yellow Prawn Goby (Cryptocentrus cinctus)

I would also like a small group of anthias (N. carberryi or P. pulcherrimus), but realize that I may be pushing maximum density with a pair of clowns and possibly 15" (3 x 5") of butterflys.

Also, after the tank has been established for a year or so, I'd like to add a RBT anemone and a green mandarin fish (P. splendidus).

Thoughts and admonishments are welcome and much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!!!

And here's what I've updated it to (changes to original in blue....)

Corals: SPS & only "noxious" polyps - see desired new angelfish for reason why...

So...fish wish list, in no particular order:

1 ea Majestic (Blue Girdled) Angel Fish (Pomacanthus navarchus) (understand them not being "reef safe", but am planning coral stocking around this fish's proclivities)
3 ea Pyramid Butterflyfish (Hemitaurichthys polylepis) (would add at same time)
2 ea Flame Angelfish (Centropyge loricula ) (would add at same time...and understand them not being truly "reef safe", but have researched this fish extensively and am hoping that by getting them young and keeping them fed, I can mitigate potential problems; though I know there are no guarantees, here...)
1 ea Orange Stripe Prawn Goby (Amblyeleotris randalli) and pistol shrimp
2 ea Ocellaris Clowns (Amphiprion ocellaris) (tank bred, would add at same time)
1 ea Solon Fairy Wrasse - (Cirrhilabrus solorensis) - Note - it is understood that this fish requires a tight-fitting 1/4" mesh covering for the tank. It's already been constructed. :-D

I would also like a small group of anthias (N. carberryi or P. pulcherrimus), but realize that I may be pushing maximum density with a pair of clowns and possibly 15" (3 x 5") of butterflys.

Also, Steve, in addition to your comments on potential incompatibilities, I'm wondering in what order you'd add these fish, obviously in hopes of minimizing stress on both the new and the old...

Once again, and as always, THANKS for all that you do!!!

In all cases of large angels, I suggest going with a juvenile or near juvenile as they transition into captivity better than adults, especially large adults.

3 ea Pyramid Butterflyfish (Hemitaurichthys polylepis) (would add at same time) Ideally towards the end and for sure after the angelfish
2 ea Flame Angelfish (Centropyge loricula ) (would add at same time...and understand them not being truly "reef safe", but have researched this fish extensively and am hoping that by getting them young and keeping them fed, I can mitigate potential problems; though I know there are no guarantees, here...)

Greatest risk is towards meaty LPS corals

1 ea Orange Stripe Prawn Goby (Amblyeleotris randalli) and pistol shrimp

1 ea Solon Fairy Wrasse - (Cirrhilabrus solorensis) - Note - it is understood that this fish requires a tight-fitting 1/4" mesh covering for the tank. It's already been constructed. :-D

Remember C. solorensis is slightly on the aggressive side and will lost some coloration absent a female.

not necessarily so. Water column availability is important and feeding multiple times per day is strongly preferred, ideally with a fair amount of current

Also, after the tank has been established for a year or so, I'd like to add a RBT anemone and a green mandarin fish (P. splendidus).

Be sure that the anemone you add will host the species of clownfish you plan
