I have a 90g reef tank. It's been running for 5 1/2 months. I am running a 30g sump with a sea side aquatics skimmer rated for 180-225g and a bio pellet reactor. Also, running Kalk in my ATO.

Salinity 1.026, Cal 400, Mag 1280, Alk 9, PH 8.1-8.2

My current fish list is as follows:
2 clowns
5 chromis
1 six line wrasse
1 yellow tang
1 powder blue tang (3 1/2 inches)

My question is the powder blue tang. I really messed up when I got this fish 2 days ago. I saw it at the store and really fell in love with this tang. I know I messed up bc of my tank size. Should I get rid of this fish (I have a friend with a 125 that could take it) or can I hang on to him until he gets too big for my tank?

Go easy on me, still learning! :sad2:

I am always gentle, but not subtle. A couple of things with your current stocking list:

* The five chromis will over time become fewer, possibly as few as one
* The six line wrasse will limit future tank mates as it is very aggressive towards similarly shaped water column fish
* Your tank is only marginally sized for a yellow tang (100 gallons minimum) as well as less than desirable size for the powder blue tang (125 gallons minimum). Zebrasoma tangs (yellow) are relatively intolerant of additions after they are established and two tangs in that sized tank are not a good situation.

It is difficult to suggest what the best course of action will be, I can only give you the longer term likely consequences.

Yeah, I have made some mistakes with the order and with the fish themselves. I guess the good news is, I plan on upgrading in the next year. I'll have to find some of these fish a good home. Thanks for you're fast reply!

I'm working with a 40g reef tank, live rock, and thinking a 20g sump.
This will be my very first tank, but am working with someone who has done this before.
First is this too many fish- second will they kill each other

black cap basslet
blue/green reef chromis
royal gamma basslet
six line wrasse
catalina goby -hoping to get 2
glown goby

possibly a blood red fire shrimp

black cap basslet

royal gamma basslet
six line wrasse too aggressive, avoid
catalina goby -hoping to get 2 needs cool water (collected in California) which is infeasible for you
glown goby

possibly a blood red fire shrimp

[welcome]

i would like a total of 10 fish ( 6 more)

UPDATE

i am getting ready to add 2 fish next week, i am thinking of adding a royal gramma and a mccorsker's flasher wrasse next - 6 weeks thereafter, i'd like to add a raccoon butterfly and an anthias - is this plan feasible ?

That should be fine. Remember that flasher wrasses are prolific jumpers and the tank must be covered (not with egg crate). Also in the future, please do not remove my magenta coloration as I use it to easily differentiate what I say from the question.

TODAY

getting reeady to add a Royal Gramma, a McCorsker wrasse, and a Racoon Butterfly soon -
my question is , in 6 weeks , i will make my last additions - torn between Anthais (1 or 3 ? ) or an Australian Stripey or a 2 line Monocle Bream?
which scenerio would work best with my config?

Please do not remove my coloration comments as it allows me to differentiate easily my remarks from your questions. Multiple anthias require a larger tank than you have because of the nature of their social interaction. The best option, of those presented, in your sized tank is a 2 line Monocle Bream.

sorry, it isnt intentional - when i copied / paste to include older posts it removed coloration comments -
a 2 line Monocle Bream would make the 8th fish - after that, no more addtions?
bio-load is topped out ?
i couldn't add 1 anathias and a stripey?

A stripey ideally requires a minimum of a larger tank (120 g), 1 anthias would be fine but ideally requires a minimum of two feedings per day or more depending on species

ok - no stripey ,
2 or more feedings a day for an anthais is fine - i feed (small) 3x a day now for the Kole Tang and the Coral Beauty -
thx again for your help

Current Setup:
300 gallon fowlr
225lbs LR
140lbs LS
30gal sump
30gal fuge
Salinity 1.025, pH 7.8, nitrites and nitrates 0.
Tank has been setup for 6 weeks.

Current Inhabitants:
3 Pajama Cardinals
1 Possum Wrasse
2 Perc Clowns
Some Sea Cucumbers

Future wanted list(in no specific order):

Porcupine Puffer
Blue Spotted Toby
Blue Face Angel
Snowflake Moray Eel
Lionfish
Powder Blue Tang
Yellow Tang
Mandarin Fish
Picasso Trigger

I'm really just trying to figure out what order would be best for the fish I'm wanting to add.

75 gaskin reef
3-4 Bartletts a group of anthias will do better in a 125 gallon tank or larger; Bartletts have a propensity to all turn male
2 B&W clowns
2 pipefish very difficult, but doable; feed nutramar ova and have a mature tank, ideally with a refugium
A yasha haze goby/pistol combo

I don't provide analysis on aggressive fish tanks, sorry.

75 gallon
2 B&W clownfish
1 Bartlett anthias
Yasha haze goby/pistol combo
2 pipefish (later on)
Kole tang or bristletooth tang
Fairy wrasse

The most difficult on your list is clearly the pipefish (I believe you cannot have two of the same sex) which will do well in a mature reef tank without large amounts of flow and no competitors for copepods. Otherwise, I do not see any behavioral conflicts. Fairy wrasses are prolific jumpers so it is critical that the tank be tightly covered (not with egg crate)

As those who follow this thread know, I do not provide recommendations for a variety of reasons. With the stocking currently in the tank, a six line wrasse will preclude many otherwise "cool fish".
