Please give me some feedback, it would be much appreciated,
currently cycling my 65 gallon hex. going the FOWLR approach until I can afford to upgrade lights/skimmer/filtration.

I want to get a CUC but I was told some inverts may be hazardous to my reef once I dive into coral keeping.

-What CUC are reef safe?

Sorry, but this thread is only about Marine Fish Compatibility. You will get lots of feedback if you post a separate thread in New to the Hobby. In general, I have various kinds of snails only.

Hi, 20g high
Option one, 3 yellowtail damsel fish and yellow watchman goby
Option two, one yellowtail damsel fish, royal gramma and yellow watchman goby
Thanks

Think two fish in that sized tank. The royal gramma and watchman goby would be fine; you could have a clown goby as well if you were so inclined. Damsels are territorial and do not do well in small sized tanks with water column fish.

Sounds good on the gramma, YWG and clown goby, thank you.

I'm thinking that eventually(as in a year or two) I want to upgrade to a 40 gallon breeder.

Stock: 2 percula clownfish(already have in my biocube)
2 chalk bass.

The tank will be skimmerless and will have a 5 gallon water change either weekly or every other week.

I think that should be fine. Provide rock work with hiding places.

4 months in with 110 tall (48x18x 31 tall). AI Sol LED lighting Stock at present:

1 Banghai cardinal
Pair sunset Anthias
1 Lawnmower Blenny
1 fire/blood shrimp
2 peppermint shrimp
2 scarlet cleaner shrimp
Various crew w hermits
Several corals

Want to add a single "Feature" fish but want to keep inverts and coral fairly safe.
First thought was Kole Tang
Second thought, need help!!!!
Thanks

Thinking of adding:
Powderblue tang
Clown goby
Oscellaris

I'm planning ahead for my Juv Naso Tang. How big a tank will he need at maturity? Would a 325gal 6'x30x36 be big enough for him?

Also live stock question.
I have a 75gal 48x18x21, 40lbs of live rock (will be adding 50lbs of base rock), sump, Reef Octopus Diablo 6 Inch 160 XS Space Saver. Tank has been running for 15mos
Current Livestock:
Juv Naso Tang
Pair of Perc clowns
Melanarus Wrasse
Freidmani psudeochromis
2 skunk cleaner shrimp
1 Peppermint shrimp
Condy and 2 sexy shrimp
1 Green BTA
1 emerald crab
Several hermits
snails

Thinking of moving the clowns and BTA to a 29G Biocube once it is cycled. Could I also move the Condy and sexy shrimp?

How many more fish, if any, and what type can I add to the 75?

Thanks in advance.

Powderblue tang needs a larger tank
Clown goby fine
Oscellaris fine

an impossible question to answer. Clearly the naso tang (which ever species) needs a much larger tank but one can never answer "how many" type questions as it is a behavioral issue more than a bioload issue

Thanks in advance.

65 hex with 45+ lbs LR. please let me know if these fish will be compatible.

powder blue tang
dwarf coral beauty angelfish
purple dottyback
Ocellaris Clownfish

also, would adding some type of butterfly to these be alright?

I don't want too many fish just need to know which of these will work best together.

feedback appreciated!!

No, they are not. No tangs in a 65 gallon tank. A purple dottyback is exceptionally aggressive and will limit future additions.

assuming you subtract the tang and dottyback, there are some species of butterfly fish that would work in a FOWLR tank of this size.

Hey steve, I'm new to the hobby and heard you were the best to ask about fish compatibility. I have a 125 (6 foot tank been set up for a couple of months). Here are the fish I want to add over time. It also will be a reef tank.

Diamond Watchman Goby
Christmas Wrasse
Carpenter Wrasse
2 true percula clownfish
Bangaii Cardinal
Spotted Puffer
Anenome hosted by the clowns
Blue gudgeon goby
Powder blue tang
3 lyretail anthias (1 male 2 female)
foxface rabbitfish
flame angel
sailfin algae blenny
longnose hawkfish

Thanks so much.
John

Anenome hosted by the clowns Actually the anemone hosts the clowns rather than vice versa; make sure the species of anemone is suitable to A. percula
Blue gudgeon goby
Powder blue tang
3 lyretail anthias (1 male 2 female)
foxface rabbitfish
flame angel
sailfin algae blenny
longnose hawkfish Not shrimp safe

Thanks so much.
John

A bit crowded, but not terribly so; with multiple algae grazers, be sure to supplement with nori

Just trying to get a good plan together so the tank isn't rushed like ones in the past.

So here's the fish stocking list I came up with. Please tell me what you think. As far as compatibility goes.

Reef Central's minimum tank size for tangs recommendation can be found here. As you can see, the minimum recommended tank size for each of your tangs is barely met. What that means long term is that no other tangs can be safely added.

Purple Tang (existing tank 3")
?Powder Brown Tang (existing tank 3")
Male&female bellus angelfish Getting a hardy male Genicanthus of any species is problematic and both male and female must be added concurrently for outcome to be successful.
5-7 Bartlett's (existing tank 1 male&1 female) or evansi anthia

While all anthias do best with multiple feedings per day, Evansi are rather picky and may be difficult to start eating. Nutramar ova would be preferred initially

Hawaiian flame wrasse pair Best chance would be two female flame wrasses of different size so one changes to male; males ship very poorly and have a low success rate
Laboutes wrasse
Radiant wrasse
Exquisite (vanuatu) or Scott's fairy (cook islands) wrasse C. scottorum tolerates other fairy wrasses poorly;
Blue Spot Jawfish and/or Midas blenny blue spot jawfish needs cooler temperatures for long term success. (72-75 F)
? Pair of designer clowns

You will need a tank cover of 1/4 inch mesh as you have some prolific jumpers

Thank you for the feedback. I think with the input I'll give my Powder brown to a happy home of a fellow reefer and keep my prized purple tang. I'll also go with the Midas blenny over the bluespot jawfish. And what do you think about a red mandarin after the tank is established (1+ year), would it get along with everything in the list?

A midas blenny will nip at the fins of water column fish in small tanks, but perhaps in your sized tank that would be minimized. With all the copepod eaters, you may have difficulty with a mandarin. Also, please do not remove my coloration on answers if there are follow up questions. The magentas allows me to easily differentiate my answers from your questions.

Sorry about that :( . I went to quote what you had written and it didn't work so I just copied and pasted. Thanks again for all of the help. If I have anymore questions ill be sure to ask.

Always a pleasure, check back with any fish compatibility questions

ok here is the question
tank 16 gallon nuvo (24x10x12)
filteration live rock (no skimmer)

reef - select sps and mostly zoa/palys
current inhabitats - fire shrimp, one small baby clown and a sixline and a firefish

question is what fish can i add and be fine with the sixline wrasse .. six line is a little bitcy when it coms to firefish and chases it (which is why firefish always stays in the rock) but doesnt bother clown or the shrimp

im thinking of adding a hi fin pygmy perchlet and call it a day .. go or no go ?

A sixline wrasse limits choices especially in small or very small tanks. The fish you are proposing needs a larger tank, especially with the sixline.
