125 Gallon tank 72x18x24 deep

To begin with:

2 Green Chromis will likely become on as the dominant one will kill the less aggressive one over time
1 Ignitus Anthias
1 Diamond Watchman Goby
2 bonded Ocellaris
1 Yellow Tang once established, this will greatly limit what can be added to your tank; so if you are fixed on this fish, be sure it is the last fish added

Tank has been cycling about 2 months now, want to start with putting the Chromis in (after QT). Slowly adding in the list above in the order listed.

After a year, would like to add a Green Mandarin. I have a 12 gallon refugium with Chaeto, looking to plumb in another 20 gallon tank for additional DSB and refugium space.

Does this stocking plan appear to be on the right path?
Fine with annotations above

Thank you Steve. Will be patient with adding the Yellow Tang until sure I have everything else in. If the Tang is established and I want to add a fish, would putting the Tang into a seperate QT tank for awhile and reintroducing him to the tank with the new fish lessen the risk?

I would hate to be "stuck", but my kids have their hearts set on a Tang.

It would and rearranging the rock would help

I understand.

I went to a LFS and talked to the owner about stocking my new 55 setup. I plan on it being a reef tank.

He said I could have the following
1 Purple Dottyback
4 Ocellaris Clowns
2 Tangs (Blue and yellow)
1 Emperor Angel

I already have the dottyback in my DT. I purchased him a little over a month ago. I know most people never have more than 2 clowns but I read that you can have more if you get them all together from the same hatch as juveniles, any fish other than the in-charge pair will stay as juveniles until one of the in charge pair dies. The guy at the store try's to get a big batch of clowns from the same hatch so people can have more than 2 in their tank. He has been around for 23 years so I am guessing he knows what hes talking about.

I am hoping to get a tang next.

Will this plan work?

He said I could have the following
1 Purple Dottyback bad choice, very aggressive
4 Ocellaris Clowns two will be killed as they mature
2 Tangs (Blue and yellow) combining 2 zebrasoma in this sized tank will be World War III
1 Emperor Angel Large angels really need a minimum of a six foot 180 gallon tank

If the LFS asuggest the stocking list above, I would quickly change LFS. Either he does not know, or he knows and does not care.

He gave very bad advice.

Will this plan work? No.

ok,i'm setting up a 120 gallon with a 50 gallon sump.i have 4 fish i really really want-

Volitan Lionfish
Snowflake Eel
Midnight Arothron Puffer
Yellow Angler

and if allowed maybe a trigger or tang or foxface.
so do you think these four will coincide with each other? will i be able to add one of the optional? thanks

How does this guy keep 27 clowns?

You are most welcome to take the advice of your LFS or any other thread on Reef Central. I will not be offended in the slightest; on the other hand I don't really wish to try to explain why what other folks do or recommend is not best practice. Sexually undifferentiated clownfish can be kept together (20, 50, 100) but in your tank, they will sexually differentiate and kill two.

sorry I do not provide analysis on aggressive fish tanks. We do have a forum for Fish only and aggressive fish. That can be found here.

Want to add:
tomini or kole tang I like either, but two push.es the available algae for grazing a bit
mimic tang one tang ideally but any of the three. If you must have two be sure to introduce them concurrently
solon fairy wrasse tends to lose coloration absent a female over time and is on the aggressive side
yellow coris wrasse
bartlett's anthias
3 spotted cardinals
yellowhead jawfish
cleaner shrimp (to make it a pair)

except as noted, fine

Snorvich just wanted to say thanks for having this thread, there's excellent info in here.

On the topic of LFS's... One of the guys at one of the LFS's I go to told me I should look at SPS and a huma trigger for the 10G nano I'm working on setting up. LOL

That being said, how would this work out for a 10G? May upgrade in the future but 10G for now.

Platinum clown
Firefish (maybe)
Royal Gramma

And if I wanted to, would a pistol shrimp+yellow watchman goby be okay in that tank setup either with or without the firefish?

Platinum clown a clownfish of this species, once it sexually matures will want about 20 gallons. Since these are readily available I would defer it until you have upgraded
Firefish (maybe) Yes.
Royal Gramma Either would work, but not both; Gramma loretto, while having small territories compared to other fish, protect that territory well so this will not work with another fish

The combination of a commensal shrimp goby and firefish would probably work, even in a ten gallon.

Would a lubbock's fairy be less aggressive?

Would a lubbock's fairy be less aggressive?

Yes, considerably. The general "rule" is that the "blue based" fairy wrasses tend to lose coloration absent a female and tend to be more aggressive with C. scottorum being the worst. Remember fairy wrasses are jumpers so be sure you have a mesh top
