for my taste, that my have too many largish fish
What if I were to limit myself to only one wrasse; would I be able to increase the number of tangs?
Is 2 the maximum number to tangs that I can have in that size tank?
Thanks!

What if I were to limit myself to only one wrasse; would I be able to increase the number of tangs? No. They do not occupy the same ecological niche
Is 2 the maximum number to tangs that I can have in that size tank? no, three. The problem is the zebrasoma tangs are very territorial once established, hence concurrent addition, and the P. hepatus, once mature, can also be pretty aggressive
Thanks!
always most passive first, most aggressive lastNew 120 gallon dual overflow tank
-Sump system w/bio balls
-I am getting some dry rock that will turn to live rock (maybe some live rock along with that), I am planning on doing corals in the future so the fish need to be reef safe, and I would like to get shrimp and other easy inverts.
Fish wish list:
-Midas blenny & Starry blenny I suggest or the other but not both; you might get away with two in the same ecological niche in this sized tank
-Lamarck's or flame angelfish flame is not reef safe
-Dispar Anthias
-Longnose or orange butterflyfish kleins is only marginal reef safe
-Maybe schooling bannerfish?
-ocellaris clown
-zebra dartfish
-foxface lo
-Yellow watchman goby and pistol shrimp pair
-maybe a dusky jawfish?
-saddle valentini puffer not invert safe
-yellow, convict, or kole tang yellow is aggressive and once established usually intolerant of similar additions
-Flasher wrasse
-Engineer goby you will not be happy as it rearranges your tank
-tobacco basslet?
Which ones should I introduce first?
Thanks, again.
This is an awesome thread and I appreciate all of your hard work and advice!
I currently have the following in my 120 DT mix reef
1 kole tang
1 midas blenny
1 kaudrens cardinal
2 perc clowns
1 ywg
I am battling a gha breakout, I have bought additional cleanup crew, added a gfo reactor and change my flouresent bulbs. I was thinking of adding a lawnmower blenny to help reduce the algae. But my concern is being able to keep it if/when I get this algae under control. Will it be wise to add one?
Thanks in advance
Nitrates have been at 0 and phosphate 0.08. I think it might have to do with lighting...
I'm beginning plans for a pretty nice sized tank either a 100 or a 150. Seeing if I can find a pre drilled in decent shape. I'm aiming for mostly zoas, mushroom, a couple leathers, a few lps mostly euphyllia and duncan, and a sps or two, I'm not venturing into acropora yet.
Stock wise I'm thinking of:
pair of ocellaris clowns
midas blenny
melanurus wrasse
chrysus wrasse
pair of read headed solon fairy wrasse
royal gramma
flame angel
Here's what I have so far:
- Snowflake Clown
- Black Clown
- Fire Shrimp
- Emerald Crab
- Snails x 5
- Lobo Coral
- Frogspawn
- Duncan
What I'd like to add:
- Golden Midas blenny
- Yasha goby
- Candy stripe pistol
- Maxi mini anenome
- 4-6 sexy shrimp
- More coral, still undecided
I'm getting my daughter a 30 gallon tank for her room. We looked at some lists of different fish that are compatible with the size tank she is getting. Right now she has a Yellow tailed Blue Damsel, blue legged hermit, and a few snails in a 20 gallon.
the damsel can limit other tank mates due to aggression; it would be best if it were elsewhere
The things that she liked best were:
Blue Neon Goby fine
Royal Gramma Basslet fine or Bicolor Dottyback dottybacks are not compatible with each other or firefish
Firefish introduce early
Orchid Dottyback dottybacks are not compatible with each other or firefish
For the inverts, she liked:
Orange Sea Star will starve to death
Scarlet Skunk cleaner shrimp
peppermint Shrimp
Red Tuxedo Urchin
Out of everything in her list, what would she actually be able to get? I know the Yellowtail damsel can be aggressive, so what if anything can she put in there with it? Worst case scenario, I guess I could put her Damsel in my tank so she can get more fish in her tank.
Far enough, tank is a 28 gallon Nanocube intermediate (28 watt led). I don't plan adding the sexy shrimp and mini maxi until 6 months or so.
Here's what I have so far:
- Snowflake Clown
- Black Clown
- EFire Shrimp
- Emerald Crab as it grows larger, can take fish
- Snails x 5
- ELobo Coral
- Frogspawn
- Duncan
What I'd like to add:
More coral, still undecided. Looking at sun coral, plate, and unsure...
- Golden Midas blenny some nip fins of tank mates
- Yasha goby
- Candy stripe pistol
- Maxi mini anenome will not host clownfish
- 4-6 sexy shrimp
- Helfrichi fire fish introduce early as they are shy and establish better before others go in
Thanks for the input!
I'm looking for the maxi for the sexy shrimpHopefully the clowns will feel partial to one of the corals.
which may or may not be a good thing; clownfish can damage corals e.g. plate corals, goniopora, etc.
Is there the bicolor blenny better tempered? yes, absolutely
I originally wanted a jaw fish, but it seems they need lower temps.
Blue spotted jawfish do as they are collected in the sea of cortez; yellow headed do not.
