Yeah I was surprised for it to be so low. Not cool. I think the nepthia would make it but it would really stress it. I'm drip acclimating the fish like I used to do. In an hours time I will bring it up from 1.016 to 1.020. I hope everyone will be okay with it.

I currently have a juwel rio 125 set up for tropical fish and I want to convert it to marine. To do this I plan to remove the juwel filter box add 15kg of live rock, a juwel skimmer, marine lighting and a few power heads (keeping the juwel heater I have currently). Anything missing?

now that I have tank size . . .
Once my tank is set up I would like to keep a pair of clowns depending on species, that may be all your tank can handle
, a tang needs a larger tank
and a few shrimp snails etc.

Obviously I would hope to keep more than this. I have heard of gobies and shrimp teaming up? Is this just specific species of goby and shrimp? these are commensal shrimp gobies and alpheus randall pistol shrimp

Does anyone have any suggestions of other fish to go with this stock?

agreed. that was a bad estimate. it's been two hours and I'm at 1.020 and need to get to 1.021 so it shouldn't be much longer. fish are doing great (as far as I can tell of course) and I've been dumping the water as I go. 1.016?!

Hi Steve... Still tinkering with the list for my 75g. I've added the first fish on the list, and have the second in quarantine. #3 was going to be a bangaii cardinal, but I've decided that they seem boring. So here's the list and below are some ideas for one last fish to add to the mix. Thoughts?

1. Blue Gudgeon Dartfish (in tank)

2. Purple Firefish (in quarantine)

3. Royal Gramma

4. Pair of Ocellaris Clownfish

5. Exquisite Fairy Wrasse or Orange-Back Fairy Wrasse (or some other fairy wrasse)

6. Kole Tang

Plus one (or both?) of these?

Midas Blenny

I love the foxface, but do plan to keep corals in the tank. Also not sure if the foxface + tang will be too much.

One Spot Foxface foxface is reef safe if well fed; if not well fed it will munch on corals for the zooxanthellae.

I love the foxface, but do plan to keep corals in the tank. Also not sure if the foxface + tang will be too much. it should be ok, but be sure the tang is last introduced

And people seem to be recommending a pair of clowns instead of a single one. Would you agree this is a better choice? the end result will be the same as far as impact on the tank mates

if it is the last fish you add, it should be ok; later additions may not be tolerated by an established yellow tang

midas blennies can nip the fins of planktivores and since you will have two algae grazers, I would not add another algae eater.

2 longnosed hawkfish (i know you told me this isn't something you have done but after talking to several people who had good luck, i decided to go for it. took the new one out of qt sunday, put him in an acclimation box for the day, released him later in the evening. there was a little chasing, no nipping, and that stopped quickly...less than a minute. they are getting along great and are so cute together! the new one is about half the size of the first one).


i have been looking at wrasses all day today (slow day at the office, yay). with your input, i have narrowed it down to a carpenter's flasher wrasse and a red-lined wrasse. looked at them on liveaquaria and they seem to be good community fish. can i put them both in together?

Glad it worked. I hate to say yes on a question unless I am pretty sure. I do love that fish though as they are incredibly personable.

Yes, they should work but note that they are both prolific jumpers so you need 1/4 inch mesh to keep them in. Note well, however that all Halichoeres including the red-lined wrasse, are not invert safe; they do, however, prey on undesirable inverts as well.
