yup, they have the best personalities! i have been watching these 2 fish all evening. one perches on the power head, the other perches on the magnet that holds the power head. they switch places every few minutes but they are never far from each other. pretty darn cute!

i have a glass top so jumpers aren't a problem. :)

when you say they are not invert safe, do you mean not safe with anything they can get into their mouths? i only have the one cleaner shrimp, my other inverts are brittle stars, and the soon-to-be cuc of various snails i'll be getting in a couple of days.

Here it goes:

tank 50 gallon 36" long, sump with skimmer, set up 3 years, ample liverock, minimal coral, my clean-up crew takes care of the impact of excess nutrients from feeding heavy--it helps by keeping the fish peaceful.

existing fish: flame hawk, 6line wrasse, ocellaris clown, banggaii cardinal, royal gramma, neon goby, bicolor angel

wanting to add:

purple pseudochromis or
Hoeven's wrasse or
another dwarf angel, maybe swallowtail angel female, Genicanthus melanospilos or
golden dwarf morey

I don't want to add but one or two more. what do you think?

I've read two dwarf angels can live in small tanks, how about two small wrasses?

I've had my bicolor angel for 3 weeks and haven't seen it eat fish food, what can I do? It does pick at the rock and what little hair algae is in there.

Can the GDM be fed live freshwater feeder shrimp and can they be put live in the display tank in small quantities instead of feeding on a skuwer?

cleaner shrimp are at risk with any hawkfish. Brittle stars should be fine. Snails should be fine, hermits not.

purple pseudochromis or no, too aggressive with existing
Hoeven's wrasse or sixline may not tolerate
another dwarf angel, maybe swallowtail angel female, no, not with another dwarf in this sized tank Genicanthus melanospilos or any Genicanthus needs a much large tank
golden dwarf morey perhaps, but feeding is required and I have not kept this animal

Basically you are constrained by tank size and existing inhabitants.

oh, i knew about the hawkfish. i was asking if the wrasses will bother the inverts. sorry, i think we got our wires crossed. :)

no hermits for me, i mistrust the little buggars.

No, the wrasses should be fine with your cleaner shrimp. I never use or advocate hermits for a variety of reasons. I strongly prefer a variety of snails and related (such as fighting conch) so I can customize their clean up abilities.

perfect! thanks, steve. i placed an order yesterday at reefcleaners for a variety of snails. right now, i only have 3 turbos and they need some reinforcements! :)

I find a variety is good. Nassarius snails (which while great at scavenging, also stir the sand), turbo, fighting conch (technically not a snail but similar), etc. Since you upgraded to a larger tank, in the long run, you should consider upgrading your CUC as well.

i ordered the snail-only cleaner pack for a 75g. i'mma gonna have snails comin' outta my ears! my new tank has a case of the uglies right now so there is plenty for them to eat. :)

125 gallon 60 gallon sump

Fish wish list

Achilles tang

Purple tang

Pink squared Anthias (1male) (3females)

2 picaso clowns

Clown Fairy wrasse

Blue dot jaw fish

Hippo tang

125 gallon 60 gallon sump

Fish wish list You are only going to be able to do one tang for long term viability in this sized tank. Reef Central's recommended tank sizes for tangs can be found here. As you can see, of those you are desiring, only the purple would be suitable.

Achilles tang needs a larger (longer) tank

Purple tang

Pink squared Anthias (1male) (3females)

2 picaso clowns

Clown Fairy wrasse

Blue dot jaw fish needs cooler temperatures (72-75F) for long term survival. (Remember they are collected in the sea of cortez)

Hippo tang needs a much larger (longer) tank

I want to start a 29 gal biocube with a pair of ocellaris clowns and a valentini toby(puffer). Is this doable in a 29?

I would also like to have some mushrooms and zoas. Not sure if the puffer will nip them.

I know no shrimp with it. What, if any, clean up crew could I have with the puffer?

That should work. I always suggest a variety of snails and no crabs.

yes. I would not keep crabs, however, and would opt for snails.

Here is the proposed list for my soon to be 8'x2'x2' reef. Never owned a flash wrasse before will it hurt the pod population?
