Plumbing Question Please

Hi,
I have a tank (a sump actually) which cannot be drilled. It is gravity fed from the main tank has an outlet at about 3", which is going to gravity feed a new refugium I am building.

My question is - Can I plumb and elbow to the current outlet in order to raise the water level from 3" to 6" or more? I would like to do this so I can have a higher level in this tank so that if the power goes off there will still be 6" of water in the sump?

yes - in fact that is the easiest way to adjust water level in any tank.

Thanks. I was pretty sure that would work but I've also made some very bad "educated" assumptions before.
