Pohl's Coral Vitalizer-What is it?

I can't believe some of you guys out there. The Cod liver oil,and clam juice "might" be ok to dose in a tank. But do you have a clue,on how much even add to your system? It was said the clam juice, has iron in it.Well, if that's the case look out for any type of algae blooms.I just don't have the guts,to do an experimernt on my system.I got way to much invested in corals and fish.If I were to use CV at least I know how much to dose.I rather pay the extra money for CV.Then trying this on my system.Just rather be safe than sorry.I hope all works out well for you.

Why? Do you know what is in CV? for all you know it is a bottle of "clam juice" =/ . Granted I wouldnt put Cod liver nor Clam "juice" in my tank.

But at least they KNOW what they are putting in , rather than phols magical bottle of sparkles and rainbows.

okay i tried it the emulsified cod liver and clam juice mixture.. heh
doesn't work at all
corals just slime up like they're stressed

i think some people just want some attention/fame

Talk about wam bam thank you mam.....Boy that was quick...yesterday you ask where to get cod liver oil unflavored and today it doesn't work...

For those interested......the dosage of the 1 part CLO/3 parts clam juice is 1-2 drops per 25ga/daily.....just like CV.

Well, I have been using CV for about a week now. One thing that I have noticed is that the small amount of hair algea that I had is starting to disappear slowly. I noticed the thining of the hair algea about day 4.

I was told that I need to give CV at least 10 days if not longer before I notice any changes to coral color or growth. Another thing I noticed was some additional growth of new branches begining to form. Before I started CV I had some new branches forming but since adding CV I have had additional new branches forming on the same corals that werent there when I started.

Now that you added CV,try their A Acids. For even better growth You can use both in a non Zeovit system.Add the AA when the lights go off.

I remember reading somewhere that someones po4 dropped substantially when he started adding CV. If that's true it might explain algae slowing.

ldrhawke (the guy who came up with the cod liver version) certainly like to try to invent things but they never seem to pan out. like the controlled plenum wasting, his bubble filtration thing, and now this cod liver mixture.

first of all. there is no unflavoured emulsified cod liver oil product made by Twinlabs that ldrhawke mentions on the zeovit forum.

it comes in a couple of fruit flavours and a mint flavour.

the only other cod liver oil emulsion based product that i've been able to find it "scott's emulsion" which comes in orange and original(mint).

i will continue dosing my mixture just for fun to see what happens. this won't be the first thing that has stressed my sps.

Well I currently run the zeovit system and have for about six months. I can honestly say that this stuff works. I was on the fence for a log long time before I decided to give it a try. I have always been up on water changes monthly and good husbandry and never once figured this would take place of it. To me it is really no different that using Phosban or other phosphate reducing chemicals other than adding beneficial bacteria to your tank. I was only doing AA until yesterday when I started dosing CV. Time will tell if its an added benefit but from what I have read and personally seen with other Zeo tanks I think it will be a great addition.

Just my two cents :)

I have been reading all of this about zeovit , pohls cv. vodka dosing etc.

I would like to know if any of it actually works for anyone in the long run.

Pics would also be good for the rest of us for anyone anyone experimenting/testing.

marilynrn711,

You are welcome to come by and see the colors of my SPS and make a judgement for yourself. Your best bet is to look at someones tank that is currently running it and see whats it done. Besides color the most impressive aspect I have found is 0 alage anywhere. Before switching to Zeovit I was cleaning the front of my tank about once a week but now only clean it about every three weeks. Like I said I just started dosing CV so time will tell if its works as well as everyone says it does.

Well I just dosed my tank with the CLO/CJ mix......absolutely NO sliming! Corals remained open and my dottyback (who was just added and is still laying low in the rocks) came flying out into the open like someone rang the dinner bell!

FWIW, I'm using the "mint" flavored twin labs Norweigien (sp?) "emulsified" Cod liver oil.....my reasoning, it said naturally flavored (unlike the orange which said did not)....after tasting it, my bet is they used spermint oil.

Anyway, I'll let you guys know

Problem with that theory is that a huge amount of people add iron for the macro. It would be the natural sugars and organics in it that would fuel the algae blooms. That and the phosphates used for preservatives. That's why you have to ask the seafood department if they use phosphate compounds of any type for preservatives when you make your own food. Most do.

Also, Zeohead dose Iron.....in a nutrient poor system iron dosen't "fuel" algae blooms, but sparks coloration........so I'm told :)

Adding iron to a tank that has NO3 or PO4 around could certainly cause algae problems.

On the iron......

The clam juice has 4% RDA. Your RDA is 10-18mg, so the CJ has 0.4mg -0.72mg. Now it is diluted 25% with the CLO, and I add 2 drops a day in my tank.

I bet more iron comes out of a GFO reactor than my homebrew CV.
