Pooky's 300

Thanks M&T! I think having those numbers will help us all compare photos, sharpen our skills, and perhaps improve our luck in the process

short term - not likely
stupid money draining - can't argue there
time-wasting - definitely not true considering the great friends I've made while wasting money :)

You gotta waste it on something, right?

Very true. It's either sit in front of the TV or fiddle with the tank. I don't watch TV, so............

Anyways, my wife's cousin was in town this past weekend. He's a freelance sports photographer and was asked to shoot a college women's softball tournament down in the OC. I don't dare touch all those huge lenses but did ask to try out his 24-70mm F/2.8L. Boy, was that thing sweet. It's so fast! :eek2: Took a bunch of photos and a fair percentage came out really nice. Now I'm gonna have to save up for one :spin3:

Well, here is my lazy reefer's FTS  I wished I had the energy to scrape the tank clean. Just focus on the corals and fish and don't look at the tank walls......LOL

I will start including some photo info with each shot so everyone will have some idea of the parameters.

FTS - on a tripod, lens 18-55mm, f/4, shutter 1/50, ISO 125

Right side - lens 24-70mm, f/5, shutter 1/50, ISO 200

:eek1: Kenny your display is looking fantastic. Thanks for putting up the camera info, it helps those of us with poor photography skills. Your Wildfire is huge and just glows.

Looking good Kenny! It doesn't seem like too long ago you were dealing with SPS issues. Well I think its safe to say your pass them now :).

BTW nice growth on the Setosa. I can't seem to get mine to branch... any secrets?

Thanks Dan. Seeing those numbers helps me too. I realized afterwards that I should have bumped up the f-stop to get better DOF. Then should have also bumped up the ISO to raise the shutter speed to at least around 1/100 to freeze the fish. I may sacrifice a little clarity but won't really be noticeable.

I sure hope so, Brian. I still have bits of issues here and there but nothing catastrophic. I did lose my 30K colony a few months back, which was a huge bummer since I've had it for so long and it was growing so well. I also lost my $550 Efflo that was starting to take off too :(

Don't know if I have any secret on the setosa. I hadn't touched it since it was put there from the very beginning. Flow is about medium and so is lighting. After you asked, I did kind of looked at it in detail and noticed that it's mostly branching at the outer rim, where it has no more rock to encrust onto. Is yours still encrusting? Maybe it won't start any vertical growth because it's still got real estate to spread onto. Just a thought.

Your FTS is beautiful Kenny. You have great taste in fish too :)

Thanks Brett. I love fish just as much as I love corals, maybe even a bit more so :) The two can't exist without the other in a reef. I am saving room for a few more angels and maybe another butterfly or two down the road, whenever I can find them :lol2:

Anyone know what I am? :D

Sorry to hear about your losses, but glad to here that your success out weights them. I still have a few losses here and there, but I just figure its just part of the game. I don't get worked up about them like I use too. There are a few corals that I have given up on because of this.

As for the setosa... mine just is encrusting. It has room to encrust on one side of it, but on the other side EJMT keeps it at bay.

I have no idea which one but, nice wrasse.
