Nice Mark. Someone once told me that there's a particular lens that's great for taking fish pix. Would that be the one or is it something else?

Thats probably the best all around lens out there. If I had an extra $1100, it would already be in my camera bag. Maybe I should make a frag pack or two :)
 
Mark - do you already have the 18-200 mm zoom? I find that lens incredibly versatile.

Kenny - thanks for the compliment but compared to some of the photographers on RC, I am a rank amateur. :)

Yes, I have that one already, but it has a variable f/ stop. I am really looking for something with a fixed f/ stop. They are a lot more and that is why I have to wait it out :(

Well, my so called life involves babysitting and diaper changes. Anyone want to trade :lol:


I got to play with my sister-in-law's Nikon D80 yesterday and that's one sweet camera. Makes my Rebel XT look and feel like a dinosaur :( Oh well, I guess I'll just have to find another decent piece of glass for my relic.


Got some tank maintenance to do later today. Maybe I'll try for some new shots. The new pair of jordani is doing really well and the male this time looks more like a supermale than the other one. I'll see if I can get some decent shots of the new couple in the neighborhood.
 
Hi Kenny just found your thread...Need to catch up on it tomorrow.

Funny you mention getting a pair of Jordani wrasses. I was just throwing out some old MD catalogs today and was thumbing through them. I found one from 05 or o6 and they were selling Jordanis' for $92....How times have changed :(

Hi Chad. I know what you mean. It seems everything goes through some kind of fad period. Luckily, they are coming down in prices some recently. I remember just about 6-8 months ago when the borbonius was the hot item and they were going for $300+ per fish easy. Now you can find them for less than $100. Well, at least here in SoCal.
 
As promised, pix of my new babies. They are still in the frag tank but look like they are ready to go into the 300. But first, I'll have to catch the pair already in there. I may opt to just get rid of the original sub adult male and keep the female to make a trio of flames. Let's see how that works out. The new supermale actually has a lot more orange on the belly but was hard to capture in that shot.

Mark - I'm confused - the 24-70 mm zoom lens that you referenced above also has a variable F-stop from 2.8 to 22 (as do most if not all SLR lenses). I can't think of why a camera lens would only allow one f-stop since that means that to adjust exposure, you could only adjust shutter speed - very limiting to say the least. Or maybe I'm misunderstanding your point?
