So spill the beans Kenny, What fish are you looking at?
Are you going to IMAC? You should come down at least on Sat so you can hang out with Ian and me. I know....what fun would that be :p

Haven't had much time to think about the fish lately. I'll have to see about IMAC. It's most likely a no go. Would be nice to go hear some of the speakers though.

:( :( :( :( :( Same old bag of beans when it comes to the tank. This is the current victim. Almost 12" across. When whatever is done, it'll just move onto the next colony :sad1:

Joe, I have not gotten new test kits but I usually do 2 separate kits for alk and Ca, both have been showing similar results. I just got pH probes so those need to be calibrated. PO4 is through the Hanna and it's been reading .03-0.05. However, with all that said, I still don't think it's a system parameter issue. The biggest telltale sign is that whatever it is, it usually just attacks one colony at a time, sometimes maybe 2 but not more than that. When it's done, there is a small break, then another gets hit. If it was a parameter issue, we should be seeing more widespread damage.

Oh no Kenny, that sucks that it is still spreading. I sure wish you could find out what it is. Have you tried any dips/treatments yet?

Whatever it is, please don't send it to me!

Sara, I've tried all kinds of dips short of freshwater.

Don't worry, it's not affecting anything besides Acros. Your stuff should be ok but dip them tomorrow when they arrive anyways just to be safe.

Well I had high calcium (580) at one point and it didn't affect every coral the same is why I ask- I have a hard time thinking it's a predator or we would have more people having the same issue I would think

Kenny, can you take some macros to see the edge of the recession? Maybe there are bite marks, or are the tissues just peeling off?

Leo, I doubt it's due to any kind of "critters" b/c that happened pretty much overnight. The edges are peeling off. This is the first colony that actually started from the center out, mostly because of it's growth structure. Everything else that have died so far were branching and most started from the base up. I know flow has been raised as a possible cause before but it's been ruled out as they were all getting very good flow.

Damn, I hate to see this!:sad2: I wish there was something I could do.

Thanks Dan. I am pretty positive that there will be a day soon that most if not all of my Acros will be wiped out. Then I'll be coming around looking for replacements :)

Pook did you check ur temp probe?.. maybe its one of the culprit?... Not fun looking at that pic.. Man hang in there..

P3n0Y, temp has been ruled out also. I have 2 separate temp controllers. One for the fans and the other for the heaters. They both read only one degree apart. And it's not temp swings either as the system only gets a one degree difference during the course of 24 hours.

I haven't forgotten about the frag I owe ya. It's coming soon :)

Darn, I wish you could stop whatever it is!

I know what you are sending me is safe and I always dip new entries anyhow. I've had my fair share of issues with my corals as well, so I can only imagine how you are feeling :(

Yeah, I don't think it's actually anything that's eating or feeding on the Acros. It happens too fast for that. I am thinking some kind of chemical imbalance but nothing that we test on a regular basis. Even my AWT test results came back normal the last few times. Maybe it's time to check it again.

My Ca level hovers in the mid 400's and alk is around 9-10.

Unfortunately, at this rate, it probably won't stop until there are no more Acros to kill. Once this big colony goes, I would have lost over 50% of my Acros in terms of the physical amount, but more than that when it comes to individual pieces.
