Thanks Dan. I am pretty positive that there will be a day soon that most if not all of my Acros will be wiped out. Then I'll be coming around looking for replacements :)
You know where to find me and always have an open invitation. AWT is a good idea, as I'm in your camp that it has to be some element or mineral imbalance but one that is usually not or difficult to test. Only weird thing is that it appears to be affecting corals one (or a few) at a time. Perhaps there is some sort of tolerance by species.

Have you been fragging the pieces that are dying?

I have but they eventually died anyways. My basketball sized Cali tort was hacked up pretty drastically when it first got hit. Cutting off the affected branches only bought it another couple of months. Same with the others that I have cut up trying to save frags of. I really wished I had another tank to put them into.

I only use AWT as a reference every 3-4 months. Can't afford to do that too often and it's quite unnecessary if the tank is established and stable. If the parameters are out of whack, all the testing in the world won't help you :D

The combination of some type of unknown imbalance and individual susceptibility is the best explanation there is yet. Now if I could only find out what that is :mad2:

I see. I'm wondering if you've given the frags of the dying colony to other people to keep, see if they can keep it alive. Your problem is baffling me, I dread if that ever happen to me.

If it's chemical, I would think that large amounts of water change should show improvement or eliminate the problem?

If I had another tank, I would put frags in there to see if they continue to die or recover. But I would not put my Acros in someone else's tank at this point b/c I have no clue what the ailment is. The last thing I want is to spread this Acro killer around. It doesn't affect Montis, LPS, or zoas.

I have been doing a lot of water changes, but so far it's only given me false hope. After a couple weeks of a healthy tank, the death starts again.

I am actually planning on setting up my old office nano in the garage but mostly for a different purpose. It's going to have a chiller to keep the temp down for some cool critters, but I guess it could double as something else :)

P3n0Y, temp has been ruled out also. I have 2 separate temp controllers. One for the fans and the other for the heaters. They both read only one degree apart. And it's not temp swings either as the system only gets a one degree difference during the course of 24 hours.

I haven't forgotten about the frag I owe ya. It's coming soon :)

Ok man .. I had that temp issue with my temp reading 79 then I got new one and it reads 81 something .. so with my old temp hitting 80 something it actually reads 83 :(...

No worries man .I know you are a busy man with family, work and things going on on your tank.. I have some stuff cooking as we speak ( unless u dont like newly imported one's :D )...

Too bad about your coral dying off like that... That's gotta be incredibly frustrating to say the least.

Anyway, despite the mysterious culprit I really admire your tank a lot and hope whatever it is resolves soon for you.

Thanks for the compliment and well wishes, Dave. I hope it turns around also.

Hi Kenny, JMHO but in the past I never had any luck saving acros from any sort of bleaching or necrosis regardless of how much I fragged or trimmed. I finally got to the point where if anything started I would instantly pull the entire colony. If there is a pathogen present in the colony I would think leaving it in the tank risks spreading to others.

At the beginning of the year I had a similar episode, one acro after another. It all ended the moment I pulled them all out, dipped, and only put back the pieces with zero signs of damage. This included leaving out any rock that the coral had been attached to. I'd rather lose one colony and a nice piece of rock as opposed to watching the slow agonizing death of all my coral.

Ken, what did you dip with. I've tried different dips but nothing has worked long term.

I would take that table out but it's encrusted onto several rocks. If I also take out the rocks, the right side will pretty much be empty

Pook Gai!:( I have two colonies that are now having issues. I hoping it's because of the bulb change. I acclimated the tank to the new light over the course of a week but I don't know why only two colonies are affected, I hope that this is not a trend.

Dan, if it's the the tips, it might just be light burn. Is it bleached out or is the tissue actually gone?
I'm losing tissue, definitely not bleached.

Dan, didn't you take your reactor offline? What did you do for you alk during that week?
