As promised, some progress pix on the sexually morphing watanabei.

7/2/09 - 3 days after the introduction of the new male. Still looking the same as before.

Here is the other female. The only reasons I could tell them apart is the original shemale has a striated strip on the anal fin, while the younger female has a solid strip. Also, the shemale has longer streamers. The markings on the crown of the shemale also used to be much more striking in the past but has since lost some of the pattern. Hopefully that comes back too.

7/6/09 - the pattern change on the lower hind quarter is starting to be noticeable.

7/8/09 - much more obvious now. And you can see part of the new male in the background.

:eek1:

Amazing fish Kenny. Definitely on of my favorites.

Thanks Mark. Although I don't like to play favorites, if it came down to it, that would be it, not some other $300 fish. I knew that once I had a large enough tank, the PBT had to be one of the permanent residents :)

I started out the 180 with a PBT, but I know that I like to move livestock around too much and it would of stressed it out. When they are happy and fat, they add so much to a tank.

Kenny, your fish pictures are getting better everytime. I would love to add a PBT but I think that it would fight with the Blue Tang, plus I've been told that they are Ich magnets.

Dan, the new 50mm f/1.8 lens definitely helped. I am still learning how to use it properly, but it sure made things easier. The PBT is truly an ich magnet. In fact, this is my second attempt in the 300 and he's been healthy for a long while now but will get ich if anything stresses him out. The first one I bought died from ich and managed to take out the rest of the fish with it, with the exception of the purple tang and my old watanabei

I think the 3 huge cleaner shrimp in the tank is doing a great job of keeping him free of ich so far. I noticed that a while back when I lost the cleaner for a few weeks, he was covered in ich but was otherwise healthy and eating. Once I added the cleaners back in, he was cleaned within a week. I also like to move corals around, especially lately since I have been so busy pulling out dead skeletons :o He hasn't been stressed by all the activity.

I didn't know that cleaner shrimp were effective against ich. Learn something new every day.

I am not exactly sure personally if they physically remove the ich, but they do clean stuff off the body. It's almost like a massage. A soothing and relaxing experience. I am sure my wife can explain it a lot better than I can :)

Kenny do you think my Blue Jaw or Sargassum Trigger will eat a cleaner shrimp? How about a flame hawk? I'm thinking of throwing a few in as the wrasses have been complaining of sore mussels lately.

My growout/prop tank just got a bit more aggressive :D

Thats awesome Kenny. What are you feeging him?

Tangs.......anthias.......wrasses.......and such

But until he's big enough, he'll have to be satisfied with ghost shrimp and small feeder guppies 2-3 times a week.

:lmao: Actually, he's kinda creepy looking.

He's creepy alright. When he was flicking his lure, I automatically moved closer to the tank without even thinking about it  These things are true stalkers, to say the least. Very interesting to watch when they are feeding.

Updated shots of the watanabei from last night. He is getting really aggressive towards the male in the box, constantly bumping the box as if trying to get in.

I started moving closer to the computer screen just looking at his picture!

The rate of change on the he/she/it has been incredible.

Dude, Kenny, those favia packs you've got listed for sale are just JAWDROPPING!!!!:eek2: You'll know it the next time I head south:lol:

It looks like their are a couple Lori anthias in there as well :p

They are actually P. flavoguttatus but do look very similar to the lori. A bit more colorful though. I am just testing a couple out to see how they do. If they survive well, I may get more.
