Potential Stocking List // 90G.

I would really think about skipping the anthias if you get everything else on your want list. Although you mentioned that you would have an automatic feeder to give them pellets 2-3x per day ... what if they won't eat pellets? That would be far from unheard of. I think that in a 90, the rest of those fish will still appear to be plenty of fish, give you plenty of movement, etc. Just my $.02.

If they won't eat pellets, I'll feed them frozen; if I don't have luck with them, I'll skip them in the future. I love anthias, but not enough to spend hundreds of dollars to kill fish I'd rather have happy in the ocean.

I would be willing to get rid of the carpenter's flasher to get a bluejaw and a small harem (3-4) anthias. I'm aware that anthias often won't take pellets, but I can feed them at least twice a day, usually three.

Is there any other conflict? Stocking is something I'm still getting used to, so I have a lot to learn (nine months into the hobby).

Xanthicythus sp. are planktivores, or so every recent source I've read has told me so.

I'm open to disagreement if I'm misinformed.

Thanks Reeftanks6. :>

Guess I'll cut the Carpenter's from the list. Would another flasher or similar be too many fish, or am I safer cutting that slot out completely?

A slightly upturned mouth, which remains very small throughout the fish's lifespan, does not allow Xanthichthys to consume the same foods as many other triggerfishes. Instead, species of the genus Xanthichthys concentrate their diet on free-floating zooplankton, which they eagerly pluck from the water column. In fact, stomach contents of X. auromarginatus revealed the fish fed exclusively on zooplankton (Hobson, 1974). Additional notes from this study indicated the vast majority of the zooplankton were calanoid copepods.

Bumping my own thread, and shamelessly!

Considering what I have now and what I would like to add in the future, what order should I go in? I'll be stopping by the lfs tomorrow, and if they have a yellow watchman or barbershop, he's going on hold.

Alright - update time:

I have (in the tank):
2x Firefish Goby (Nemateleotris magnifica)
I have on hold at the lfs:
1x Yellow Watchman Goby (Cryptocentrus cinctus)

I'm considering adding in the following order:
1x Barbershop Goby (Stongobiops nemetodes)
2x ORA Aquacultured Black Clownfish
1x McCosker's Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus mccoskeri)
3x Anthias (Pseudanthias ignitus, P. randalli, or P. paravirostris)
1x Yellow Tang (Zebrasome flavescens)
1x Bluejaw Trigger (Xanthichythys auromarginatus)

I'll turn this into my build/update thread. :p

I have:
2x Firefish
1x Yellow Watchman Goby
1x Court Jester Goby (rainfordi)

Today I picked up (my favorite lfs had an unimaginably good sale) for $290:
1x Yellow Coris Wrasse $17
1x Japanese Swallowtail (female) $50
Blue linckia star ($15)
2" maxima ($30)
Aqueon 30 filter ($60)
30G L (free with filter)
12g Ocean Nutrition Green Marine Algae
3.87oz. pack of Hikari Marine A
ECOMOD Maxijet mod
ECOMOD holder (removes the suction cups)
100g Formula ONE pellets
100g Formula TWO pellets
2x250mL Brightwell Aquatics Vitamin C
60mL Brightwell Aquatics Garlic

Get those Randall's Anthias, they truly are stunning, and you don't see them very often. I have one male and three females in my tank, they seem to be doing great.

My swallowtail was eating even during acclimation... At the lfs, they dropped him mysis (he was shy at first, then took it). I dropped him three freeze-dried cyclopeeze pellets and he ate them. Just fed him some Hikari angel food.

Oh yeah, add that to my list of stuff I got earlier:
Hikari angel food mix
Hikari mix (squid, krill, mysis, lettuces, spirulina, plankton, rotifers, etc.) x2
Hikari squid
Hikari herbivore food
