Potters angel primer

Question for ya Large Angels: You always dose with copper? Aren't some of the Centropyge sp. sensitive to copper based meds? Or are you just refering to ALL your fish & that is SOP??

sincerely,
Matthew

Some dwarfs are sensitive to certain types of copper medications, but not Cupramine. Yes, all my fish get treated with Cupramine in QT before being introduced to any of my tanks.

Thanks, was just curious. So you mean like copper sulfates & such things?
I'd be nervous because for some reason, its always the more expensive species! <sigh>

I have two questions:

1) What tank mates do well in a cube tank w/ these guys?

2) Mine seem to have gotten into fights w/ my 2 clowns.

---

Over time, my potter's has developed a nack for 'everything' and 'anything'. I swear by the CYCLOPEEZE flakes.

It hasn't nipped on any inverts, but loves to graze the algae. I see it kiss it all the time. lol

Keep a variety of diet. These aren't as difficult as some might portray them to be.

Here is a pic of one of my males. He's loosing orange and gaining blue as time goes by.

I put my Potter's angel in my 50g frag tank with a very small Tomato Clown. They both lived there for a couple of weeks. The Potter's Angel is now in a very mature 35g estuary tank with some live rock and lots of algae (macro and otherwise). It seems to be doing OK and comes out when I feed. I mix a wide variety of foods in a mug and deliver it with a turkey baster. It's been shy, but so far so good at week one in the new tank.

Well I got some bad news. My potters has started to nip on my derasa clam. It nips the edge of the mantle untill it snaps closed. Started a couple of weeks ago and I upped the feedings by a lot which seemed to help, and then he started doing it again today even right after being fed. Ill keep an eye on the situation and if the clam starts showing signs of problems, Ill move it to my brothers tank.

Tank-90 gallon
Flow- 40x
I have about 120 pounds of live rock with only a one inch sand bed. I have three potters angels all added at the same time about a week ago. So far they get along really well although they don't hangout with each other. Right now they all pick at the rocks and the glass but I have yet to see them eat. I have tried chopped pe-mysis, angel 1 and 2 formula, and spiro brine shrimp. As far as hiding they have been out since the first day i got them. Oh almost forgot other tank members are a 2.5" purple tang and a indigo pseudochromis. Thanks Tony

Well, the Potters I wrote about earlier jumped the morning of the day I was moving it from the 40g to the 180g.
Didn't see it in time. It was in the 40g for a about 2 months.
This was Christmas break.

I picked up a slightly bigger one (1.5 in.) from the lfs and put it straight in the (covered) 180 after acclimation. It's been in for about 4 weeks now.

It settled right in and ate the first time I fed the tank.
Now it eats anything I feed, lots of frozen cubes, rod's and dried cyclopseze.
It picks all day and has left the clams and sps alone so far.

The only issue is that my male 4.5 in. male Lyretail anthias tries to intimidate the potters.
The potters stands up to the lyre but is so much smaller that he doesn't win the stand off yet.

I need some more female lyretails to distract the male, :).

My current one, which has been with me for 10 months now, hasn't touched any of my SPS, zoas, clams nor anemones.

Nice !

Mines pretty aggressive, always beefing w/ my clownfishes.

However, I am trying to find a tank mate. Any ideas?

Just 2 clowns and 1 potters.

How do you all feel about your potters and their reef compatibility? This fish is at the top of my list.
I've had mine since September (Nov in DT) and it leaves most things alone. Loves to nip a pocilliopora, but no other SPS. Loved to eat just the polyps off my sparkling blue cespitularia though...

Mine ate half my bubble coral, but I upped my feedings and it hasnt touched it since and has regrown. It also likes to take the occasional nip on my clam, there are some nicks on the mantle but the clam still seems to be doing ok.
