Powder Blue Hybrids

I'm considering one of these - and I'm just wondering what kind of color variations to expect with this particular cross. I've seen some stunning adults with that steel blue color, and some less than impressive juveniles that are pretty pale. Is their color something that fills in with age/size, or is this just to be expected among these hybrids? If anyone owns one, I'd love to see pictures! Thanks

I'm interested too. I've heard from people that Achilles hybrid are much more mellow, and would love to hear more about PBT hybrids. Consider this a selfish bump.

Personally I think in case of Powder Blue and also Achilles, both hybrids are not as nice as they pure Powder Blue or Pure Achilles and I have seens over 100 of the first and quite a few of the second.

For the Powder Blue Hybrid It is true when they mature, they are nicer, but same for the pure Powder Blue.

The Powder Blue hybrid is more "special" though and harder to get, but some Indonesian suppliers gets them on regular basis.

I agree that usually most hybrids are not as attractive as the originals, but sometimes you find a gem!

Wow Peter, that's a stunning fish! Was that one sold out of the Diver's Den at one point? It also looks like a much larger specimen than others I've seen come up recently. I pulled the trigger on one yesterday - after doing some research and coming to the conclusion that like the pure PBT and goldrim, the mature hybrid develops that dark rich color. Mine is small at 4" but looks relatively dark compared to other specimens his size. I'll be interested to see how his color develops as he grows :) I'll be keeping him alongside a pure powder blue in my 520g.

Yeah, that one showed up on DD a couple years ago. If I had my FO running at that point I would have snagged him for sure.

Can you compare this head to head to a pure Powder Blue?

Dont misunderstand me , I like hybrids and I have a few, but in most cases incld this ones, they are not as nice as pure ones.

Yes. IMO the picture posted looks better than a pure powder blue. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I'm not hosting a pbt vs hybrid debate. I personally like them both very much and I think they compliment each other very well, which is why I've decided to keep them together.

I always like special fish and hybrids.
Collecting them is the fun part, but I do not think a hybrid powder blue is better looking than a pure powder blue , same in Achilles, I saw quite a few especially in last years and they can not compete with a full grown pure achilles IMO.

Thinking about it in Acanthurudae and Pomacanthidae, not many hybrids are better looking than their pure parents.
The crazy Hybrids from Vanuatu Centropyge flavissima x vroliki are one that really stands out, some specimens are really spectacular.
Very rare occasions Pomacanthus maculosus x chrysurus.

I agree,I love pure Achilles with the largest tear drop
But people like unusual fish so if you already have few Achilles, this hybrid will stand out.

Hybrid emperor and chrysurus looks great too.
Same thing I love orange tail emperor but of you have this it will really stand out.

You guys mentioned hybrids that are near impossible to obtain (Emperor hybrid and venustus x multifasciata).

I'm talking about easier to get hybrids like the Powder Blue which is available weekly in Indonesia and others. :)
