Power Compact against Egg Crate???

I recently purchased a Current USA Satellite Power Compact, with the 2 65watt bulbs. I bought some "egg crate" today at Lowe's in preparation for purchasing a Goby in the near future. My question is; Can I lay the light directly on the egg crate? It is now on the legs that keep it about 2.5 inches off the top of the aquarium. Thanks for any info.

My first thought is "better safe than sorry". I think I should just leave it on the legs. Anybody have their lights directly over the tank? If so, what do you have it lying on?

It should cause any problems with the egg crate. I wouldn't worry. You might see a bit more heat with it on the egg crate, but likely not.
