Pre-School Tank Build

I have to update this. It's been a while. The kids got their 2nd and 3rd fish this past weekend as well as a small clean up crew. The first fish came 3 weeks ago. They got a small yellow tail damselfish.

They voted on the name Sunflower for the damselfish and they are still working on picking names for the clowns.
Big thank you to our friends from Kansas at Coral Syndicate for donating the tanks first zoas and palys.

Does anyone have good suggestions for keeping these small fish out of the overflow box? I was going to try some quarter inch black netting around the weir area. 2 fish have taken multiple trips to the sump now.

Some updates:
During the last full week of October I noticed the male clown stop eating and get thinner. He didn't make it and we had to run out and find an exact replacement. Fortunately a fish store near by had an exact copy.
This week on Friday I go in to talk about the tank and answer questions they are preparing this week. In preparation they are learning some new vocabulary words and are being given a brief overview of things like the Nitrogen Cycle and what it means to be an animal vs a plant.

The kids will be voting on names for the serpent star and brittle star this week.

I took the day off of work last Friday to talk to the students about what was in their tank. They had a lot of questions that I tried to answer at a level they could comprehend. I did a demonstration on a water change and added a new fish and shrimp.

I'm not allowed to post Pictures with their faces in them. That's why the black dots over the one face.
This is me showing them the new fire shrimp.

Such a neat thing to do for them. I fell in love with fish with my kindergarten gold fish tank. My first, so to speak. The image with you showing them the fish is sweet and the point, they're interest. Good thought to make the stand wider all around. I suspect there is a good amount of their resting and leaning against it.

Awesome build!
I did not see a fix for the cross beams, that weight really scares me. Please pay close attention to the black trim of the tank, if it starts to drop, that's bad news (side with the powerhead).

I for vote Batman & Brownie Lol :)

I can already imagine all the little hand and nose prints on the glass, I have to clean the glass on mine all the time because of my 2 year old

Did a water change on the tank this past Friday. I have been doing 5 gallon changes every two weeks. The tank seems to be doing really well. The LPS and most soft corals with the exception of a neon green toadstool have been doing really well. I took a photo of all 3 emerald crabs that were donated to the tank by another slash member. The kids love finding all 3 of them every time they come to look at the tank. They even had a lesson about how crabs molt just like shrimp when they found 4 crabs but one looked dead.

Not sure what happened to her. She was fine for 5 months then died during the middle of the week during school hours.
Its spring break so I added a new sparkles for the kids to find when they get back.
